Allegany County officials are planning to expand operating hours at Mountainview Landfill’s refuse drop-off site starting next month, reopening it on Mondays a year after reducing hours to save money. Public Works Director Paul Kahl outlined a plan during Thursday’s work session that would increase the site’s total hours of operation from 40 to 49.5 — partly because of complaints from residents, and partly because closing on Mondays caused an unexpected problem. Kahl said that even though the county closed the drop-off site on Mondays, the private landfill still remains open- however that led to a number of residents taking advantage of the situation- and it also created some confusion for users….
