No Additional Layoffs Despite Tense Atmosphere at CSX

No additional layoffs in Cumberland have been announced by CSX in recent weeks- however sources say it’s a tense atmosphere at the local rail yard operation with many employees expecting further cuts. Last month, a CSX spokesman confirmed the company had eliminated additional positions at its Cumberland rail yard, but he wouldn't say how many. A spokesman for the company said that the some positions in Cumberland are being eliminated, as part of an ongoing company-wide review of operations to improve efficiency and safety and to better serve customers. That action followed an earlier one in May that saw 45 employees laid off.  Many attribute the layoffs to the so called precision engineering program implemented when Hunter Harrison was named CEO in February.
