August 7th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

With students set to return to Frostburg State University’s campus this month, the administration has been working hard to put together a Coronavirus screen system.  FSU President Dr Ron Nowaczyk, during the regular meeting of the Greater Cumberland Committee on Thursday, said that the university will be using federal CARES Act funding from Allegany County to insure that a thorough testing operation is in place for students as well as faculty and staff…

With all due respect to my former employer and the President of FSU, the opening of the semester will only prove to escalate the Covid virus here. It’s something we don’t need. Our numbers are up 31% since July 1st. Now I fear they will explode.

I think a returning students to FSU should have to test negative before they come back to FSU, not 14 days after they are back.

Having students return to FSU this month will be catastrophic! Most of the students are from the eastern parts of Maryland (where there are higher numbers of COVID cases and deaths than in our county). Those students (who may be asymptomatic or have mild symptoms) will in turn do their shopping and such in Frostburg, Lavale, Cumberland, and surrounding towns. Those students will end up infecting the locals in this area (especially since one sees some people not even wearing face masks in certain stores around here). Do we really want the infection rate and death rate to be as high as it was during the 1918 Spanish Flu?! It was so bad back then that they had to dig mass graves along the C & O Canal! Please don’t let history repeat itself!
