On March 30th, 2024 at approximately 10:18a.m. Allegany County deputies were dispatched to the 13000 block of Winchester Road, Lavale, MD for a reported overturned vehicle. Upon arrival rescuers from numerous area fire departments were attempting to extricate two victims from the inside the vehicle. Karen Walker (66 of Bowling Green, MD) was successfully extricated, and then flown by Maryland State Police Trooper 5 to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.
Medical staff on the scene attempted to revive the operator Phillip Allen Walker (62 of Bowling Green, MD) unsuccessfully. Mr. Walker was pronounced deceased on the scene. The roadway remained closed for several hours while crash team investigators from both the Cumberland Police Department, and the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office investigated. The matter remains under investigation by S/Dep. Plummer, and M/Dep. Martel. Any witnesses to the incident are asked to contact them at 301-777-1585.
Assisting on the scene were Troopers from Maryland State Police Barrack "C", members of the Bowling Green Vol. Fire Department, Cresaptown Vol. Fire Department and Allegany Department of Emergency Services.
