This year’s total number of travelers for the Memorial Day holiday is expected to increase by over one million from last year. Over 45 million people will travel at least 50 miles from home over the long weekend. Road trippers lead that number with 87% expected to drive to their destination. Marylanders will make up about 770,000 of holiday drivers. AAA’s Jim Garrity says to use care with the extra drivers on the road…
“Think about the last couple of Memorial Days and add more people. That’s what we should expect on the roadways coming up. And that’s why even if you’re traveling locally, give yourself plenty of time – worst case scenario you give yourself an extra hour out the door.”
