Orioles CEO hopes for a new lease deal soon

February 20th, 2023 by WCBC Radio

WBAL reports now that Gov. Wes Moore has named a new head of the Maryland Stadium Authority, Orioles' CEO and Chairman John Angelos has said he's hoping a deal happens soon. Angelos told reporters on Sunday that he's anxious for an extension of the lease agreement at Camden Yards. "I'd love to have that as an All-Star Break gift for everybody in the community," Angelos said. "There's just no 'there-there' other than that we are going to get that done. That's always one of the things I committed too."

A long-term lease would allow access to money for upgrades for the ballpark, including seating, scoreboards and other portions of its 31-year-old infrastructure.

Angelos has also talked about upgrades to make Camden Yards a place to visit other than a baseball game.

"Live, work, play, 365 – that's going to be a huge step forward for the next iteration for Camden Yards," Angelos said.
