Ridgeley Man Arrested for Trespassing and Disorderly Conduct

On 02/08/2023 at approximately 8:20 PM the Cumberland City Police Department were dispatched to 12000 block of Willow Brook Road for a disturbance. Upon arrival officers observed security and other staff speaking to Gerald Judy Jr. outside the Emergency Department waiting room. Judy was still refusing to leave the premises and yelling at staff. Judy was placed under arrest and transported to the Allegany County Detention Center. Judy was seen before a District Court Commissioner and released on an unsecured $3,000.00 bond. On 02/08/2023 the Cumberland City Police Department served an Arrest Warrant on Maliq McCauley. McCauley failed to appear in District Court from a previous assault charge. McCauley was seen before a District Court Commissioner and released on his personal recognizance. Mckay supports effort to repeal annual gas tax hike

The Maryland Senate Republican Caucus announced its 2023 Legislative Agenda this week with an effort to halt yearly hikes at the gas pumps topping the list. For the second year, Senate Republicans are working to repeal the automatic, annual gas tax increase that is tied to inflation. On July 1, 2022, Maryland’s gas tax jumped by 19.4% and increased by nearly 43 cents per gallon, making it the fourth-highest gas tax in the Country. Entryways to West Side bridges have become eyesores

Although it won’t expedite the necessary repairs or replacement of the city’s three West Side bridges- Cumberland officials hope to at least spruce up the appearance of those structures in the coming weeks.  Bridges on Cumberland, Fayette and Washington streets have been in various state’s of disrepair for several years- with the city continuing to work with CSX Transportation to see at least two of those re-opened in the next few years. Drug Take-Back Day at UPMC Western Maryland is Friday

UPMC Western Maryland is hosting a “Prescription Drug Take-Back Day” event Friday between 11 am and 2:30  pm at the hospital campus on Willowbrook Road in Cumberland. The event provides an opportunity to safely dispose of unused or expired prescription medication. According to the latest data, 75 percent of opioid misuse starts with people using medication that wasn’t prescribed for them – usually taken from a friend or family member. Maryland Senator may not seek another term

Maryland U.S. Senator Ben Cardin is still assessing whether to run for another six-year term in 2024. SNAP Recipients To See Drastic Cut In Benefits Next Month

As the cost of living continues to rise, here is some more troubling news for our most vulnerable neighbors.
