U.S. proposes once-a-year COVID shots for most Americans

U.S. health officials want to make COVID-19 vaccinations more like the annual flu shot. The Food and Drug Administration on Monday proposed a simplified approach so that most adults and children would get a once-a-year shot. Americans would no longer have to keep track of how many shots they’ve received or when. The proposal comes as boosters have become a hard sell. The FDA is asking a panel of outside vaccine experts to weigh in on the new approach at a meeting Thursday. The agency will present data suggesting most Americans have enough protection to move to a once-a-year shots

Maryland Department of Health announces grants to expand CenteringPregnancy sites

The Maryland Department of Health (MDH) today announced nearly $430,000 in grant funding to expand CenteringPregnancy sites in Maryland. Assault, Destruction of Property and Trespassing incidents keep Police busy

On Sunday  at approximately 05:06 a.m. the Cumberland Police Department responded to UPMC Western Maryland for the report of a disturbance. Upon arrival officers witnessed Glenn Williams threatening hospital staff and breaking hospital equipment. Officers made contact with Williams, and he was placed under arrest. Williams was transported to central booking. State Police investigating destruction of property incident in Friendsville

On January 23, 2023, Troopers from the McHenry Barrack responded to a residence in the 600 block of Water Street, in Friendsville, Garrett County, Maryland for a reported malicious destruction of property.  Investigation revealed that an unknown suspect(s) damaged a window to a building sometime between 1/20/23 and 1/22/23.     Anyone with any information in relation to this incident is asked to contact TFC Ervin at 301-387-1101

March 1 deadline approaching for West Virginia high school seniors to apply for the Promise Scholarship

High school seniors in the class of 2023 planning to apply for West Virginia’s Promise Scholarship have until March 1 to complete both the Promise application and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). TRESPASSING ARREST

On January 22nd, 2023, at approximately 8:29 p.m. the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 900 block of Virginia Avenue for a disturbance. Upon arrival officers contacted Stephanie Leatherman. During the course of their investigation, the officers learned that Leatherman had been trespassed from the property. She was placed under arrest and transported the Cumberland Police station where she was issued a citation and released pending a trial at District Court.
