Fatal Injury To Worker Reported on CSX Line in Cumberland

On August 6, 2023, at 11:53 members of the Cumberland Fire Department and the Cumberland Police Department responded to the railroad tracks in the area of Queen City Drive and Frederick Street in Cumberland for a report of a trauma patient.  Upon arrival, first responders discovered that a CSX employee, Travis Bradley, age 40 of Ridgeley, WV, had been working around the train when he accidentally became entangled in the equipment and was seriously injured.  Medics from the Cumberland Fire Department treated Travis Bradley at the scene and transported him to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. …

CSX Crossing in Meyersdale Closed / Detour Posted

CSX is performing maintenance to the railroad crossing on Route 2025, 1198 Main St., Meyersdale, between Aug. 7-11. Traffic will be detoured from Route 2025 (Main Street) to Route 2047 to Route 2027 (Pine Hill Road) to Route 2026 (Berkleys Mill Road) to Route 2025. The length of the closure will depend on track time, equipment or weather-related issues.

Grants For Apprenticeship Training

Governor Wes Moore announced that the Maryland Department of Labor received $6.6 million through the US Department of Labor’s Employment and Training to help expand apprenticeship throughout the state. Funding will help connect Marylanders to careers in vital and high-growth industries, including hospitality and tourism and establish a public sector fund to bolster attraction retention efforts in those sectors. Maryland was one of only seven states to receive the grant.

PA Rural Hospitals Feel Staffing Pinch

Pennsylvania’s rural hospitals are continuing to struggle post-COVID with a shortage of physicians, mental health providers, and nurses leaving patients with little options for medical care.  The Center for Rural Pennsylvania held a hearing last week with hospital and public health experts about the challenges facing rural hospitals and staffing was a major issue. Governor Moore Says Leave No One Behind

Governor Wes Moore, Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller and members of the Governor’s cabinet made an appearance Friday evening at the Allegany County Chamber of Commerce Crab Feast.  The Governor met with attendees and made brief remarks to the crowd.  In his remarks, the governor said that this is now his fifth time to visit Mountain Maryland.  He said that during his campaign, he remembered meeting a waiter in Cumberland who only had one request of him – don’t forget about our area… The Governor then said that his experience with the 82nd Airborne has had a lasting impression on him…

Emergency Service responds to motor vehicle crash and Trauma

Slick roads, speed and aggressive driving led to a motor vehicle crash on Westbound Interstate 68 near mile marker 45 Sunday afternoonaround 3PM. Allegany County Emergency Services responding with one entrapped female. I-68 westbound was closed for 45 minutes. The female driver was transported to UPMC with non-life threatening injuries. Allegany County Emergency Services responding early this morning just passed 12AM to Queen City Drive and Frederick Street for a trauma patient from a train. Cumberland Police Department would not provide any additional information on the status of that individual or the circumstances.

Park Street Shoplifting Arrest

On 08/06/2023 at approximately 5:30 PM the Cumberland City Police were dispatched to a business in the 900 block of Park Street for a shoplifting complaint. Officers contacted an employee and learned a male subject had just left the store without paying for several items. The employee advised the same suspect had also stolen items earlier in the same day. Officers contacted Daniel Miller nearby and located some of the stolen items in his possession.
