Cumberland female arrested for Theft of items at a LaVale business
On Thursday, January 19th, 2023, The Cumberland City Police arrested Alicia Christine Royer, 34, of Cumberland MD. Royer was arrested on an active Arrest Warrant issued by the Allegany County District Court for an incident that occurred on December 13th, 2022. During that incident, it is alleged that Royer stole multiple items from a LaVale MD business. Bench Warrant arrest
On Thursday, January 19th, 2023, The Cumberland City Police arrested Darnell Anthony Davis, 36, of Cumberland MD. Davis was arrested on an active Bench Warrant issued by the Allegany County District Court on January 17th, 2023. The warrant alleged Davis failed to appear in District Court on that date for previous charge of driving on a suspended license. He was taken before the District Court Commissioner his Initial Appearance where he was released on his own recognizance. Commisioner Brodie discusses transition
Allegany County Commissioner Creade Brodie visited with WCBC Radio at last night’s 46th annual PACE reception. As Brodie begins his 4th term as a commissioner, he noted that the current transition without Jake Shade is going well. Brodie added that all transitions after elections have been successful during his time in office.

The 46th annual PACE reception was held Thursday night in Annapolis and WCBC had the opportunity to visit with Cumberland Mayor Ray Morriss. Morriss said that the next few months will bring great signs of progress for the city. The Westin Annapolis was the scene Thursday night for the PACE reception, Mountain Maryland’s annual lobbying effort with state officials. Cumberland Mayor Ray Morriss told WCBC Radio that private investors have shown increased interest as downtown Cumberland will be revitalized over the next two years. Longtime Owner of former County Market in LaVale passes
Michael Giovinazzo, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 10. Born on June 7, 1931, in Ravenna, Ohio, Mike was the son of Rosario and Maria (Martelli) Giovinazzo. He owned and operated several County Market supermarkets in Maryland and Pennsylvania including one in LaVale until retiring in 2002. Funeral services will be held at Immaculate Conception Parish at 409 W. Maryland State Police Seeks To Educate Public About Warning Signs Of Human Trafficking
With January being Human Trafficking Prevention Month, Maryland State Police are urging the public to recognize potential warning signs to reduce the chances of others becoming victims in the future. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, a child is trafficked for the purpose of sexual exploitation every two minutes in the United States. There are also an estimated 24 million people trapped in human trafficking worldwide, according to the Center for Prevention of Abuse. Columbia Gas work will Close part of North Centre Street
The City of Cumberland Engineering Department would like to notify the public on the behalf of Columbia Gas of Maryland that on January 20th there will be construction performed on North Centre Street, between Frederick Street Extended and Bedford Street Extended. Between the hours of 7AM and 5PM, this block of Centre Street will be closed to all traffic. All vehicles will be detoured onto Frederick Street Extended towards Queen City Drive.
