Arrest made in stolen motor vehicle on Columbia Ave
On November 30th, 2022 at approximately 3:27 pm, the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 600 block of Columbia Avenue for the report of a stolen motor vehicle. An officer made contact with the victim who advised that their vehicle was missing. The victim advised the officer of a possible suspect. A short time later, the vehicle was located on Mechanic Street. The officer contacted the driver, Frank Nicol. Nicol was placed under arrest. He was transported to central booking. Nicol was later seen by a district court commissioner and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center held without bond….

On December 1st, 2022, the Cumberland Police Department served an arrest warrant on David Nicol. The warrant was issued as a result of Nicol failing to register as a sex offender. Nicol was transported to central booking. He was later seen by a district court commissioner and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center without bond. Devon Burroughs sentenced to 40-year incarceration for the murder of Saiquan Jenkins
Allegany County Circuit Court Judge Jeffrey Getty Thursday sentenced Devon Burroughs, 17 to a maximum 40-year incarceration with 10 years suspended for the murder of 17-year-old Saiquan Jenkins. Burroughs was charged as an adult with first-degree murder for the Oct. 28, 2021, stabbing death of Jenkins. Burroughs will serve half of his sentence before he is eligible for parole after which he will be on supervised probation for 5 years. Both students at Fort Hill High School. Cumberland city officials working on short and long term solutions of deteriorating athletic facilities
There are any number of public baseball and soccer fields, tennis courts, playgrounds and tracks across Cumberland that have fallen into disrepair- and city officials are working on both short and long term solutions. During a recent city council work session, the subject of deteriorating athletic facilities was brought to the table, with officials pointing to significant budget cuts to the Parks and Recreation Department made during previous administrations as a contributing factor. Gas prices plunge to lowest level since February
Gas prices nationwide have plunged to their lowest level since February as demand has dropped from peak summer travel season and the price of crude oil has fallen. Softening pain at the pump offers welcome relief for households battered by inflation that stands near a 40-year high. The national average price for a gallon of gas, which stands at $3.47, has fallen more than 30% since it reached a peak of $5.01 in mid-June, according to data AAA provided to ABC News. Over the last month alone, the price for a gallon of gas has fallen nearly 8%.
Maryland Department of Health launches program to reduce suicides among Maryland service members, veterans
The Maryland Department of Health (MDH) today fully launched the Trained Military Assistance Provider (TMAP) Program, a new initiative to reduce suicides and increase lethal-means safety for service members and veterans. Developed by the Maryland Governor's Challenge to Prevent Suicide Among Service Members, Veterans and their Families, this training is free to all Maryland-based primary care staff. Frostburg State University’s College of Education was recently granted national accreditation by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). The fall 2022 review by the CAEP Accreditation Council resulted in 55 educator preparation providers receiving accreditation, bringing the total to 507 providers approved under the CAEP Accreditation Standards – rigorous, nationally recognized standards that were developed to ensure excellence in educator preparation programs.
