Trone says he campaigned on Biden agenda
The final numbers for Maryland’s Sixth District Congressional seat showed incumbent Democrat David Trone winning by a healthy margin- 54% to 45% over Republican Neil Parrott. The final 9 point spread was somewhat surprising as Parrott actually led Trone 51-49% on election night- and the race wasn’t officially called for three days. What made the contest so close initially was Parrott’s strong performance in the far western region of the state- besting Trone by 8,000 votes in Washington County; 6,300 in Allegany County; and 5,700 in Garrett County. Career Center Student recognized
On Thursday November 17, 2022, Allegany County Public Schools student, Zoie Jedlowski, was recognized by Lieutenant Governor Boyd K. Rutherford and Maryland Labor Secretary Tiffany P. Robinson for her outstanding contributions to the youth apprenticeship program in Maryland. Zoie was one of only three recipients in the Youth Apprenticeship category in Maryland. As an ACPS student in the culinary arts program at the Career Center, Zoie is a registered youth apprentice at Rocky Gap Casino and Resort. State of Maryland Surpasses 1 Million Bivalent Booster Milestone
Governor Larry Hogan and the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) today announced that more than one million Marylanders have received their COVID-19 bivalent booster since September in order to be COVIDReady in time for the holidays. “Through our COVIDReady plan, Maryland continues to be one of the most vaccinated and boosted states in the country,” said Governor Hogan. “We are grateful for the everyday vigilance of Marylanders, and the leadership of our GoVAX ambassadors, who have reminded us that we truly are all in this together.”
Sunday Night House Fire in Bowling Green
Firefighters responded to a house fire in the 13100 block of Bowling Street in Bowling Green on Sunday evening. The blaze, reported by a passerby about 7:45 p.m., drew volunteer firefighters from Allegany, Garrett and Mineral counties. Cumberland Man Arrested for Assault and Child Abuse
On November 20th, 2022, The Cumberland City responded to a residence in the 400 block of Bond St for the report of an assault. Upon arrival on scene, officers contacted the victims of the alleged assault. Officers learned that an argument had broken out inside the residence between the victim and suspect. The argument had de-escalated and the victim attempted to go to bed for the evening. Allegany County approved grants for upgrades to two wastewater treatment plants
Allegany County commission approved two supplemental assistant grants for upgrades to the Flintstone and Old Town wastewater treatment plants during Thursday meeting. The Maryland Department of Environment is providing 1.5 million dollars well $375,000 will come from the Comprehensive Flood Management Grant for each facility. That's a total of 3,750,000 for wastewater plant upgrades. Adam Patterson, Director of Public Works.
November is Diabetes Awareness month
November is Diabetes Awareness month and Allegany County Commissioners received a presentation on the impact of the disease in Allegany County. 23% of Americans have diabetes but have not been diagnosed according to the CDC, 8 out of 10 people do not realize they have pre-diabetes in America. In Allegany County the percentage of those with diabetes has risen 2% from 2019 to 8,946 citizens.
