On Sunday, May 28, 2023 at approximately 2:43 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business in the 700 block of Park Street for a male subject causing a disturbance. Police arrived on scene and located the male subject who told the responding officer to arrest him. At this time, the male subject was detained and identified as Rason Patterson. Officers contacted the manager of the business who reported that Patterson entered the store, caused a disturbance, and stole merchandise. CRIMINAL SUMMONS SERVED
On Sunday, May 28, 20023, officers of the Cumberland Police Department served a criminal summons on Alyssa Hockenberry. The summons was issued as the result of an incident that occurred on May 21, 2023. On this date at approximately 6:10 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a plaza on Industrial Blvd. for an assault that just occurred. Police contacted the alleged victim who reported that she was assaulted by Hockenberry who was no longer on scene. Airbnb Sets New Partying Standards
Airbnb has announced new efforts at reducing the risk of disruptive or unauthorized parties at their rentals in Maryland. Promoting responsible travel, the centerpoint of the new measures include blocks on certain 1 and 2-night reservations for entire homes over holiday weekends. A similar program was piloted over Memorial Day and July 4th last year and the efforts reduced the number of disruptive parties. Cumberland currently has over 60 buildings in the city that are Airbnb type rentals.
Allegany County FY24 Budget Approved
The final budget for fiscal year 2024 was approved during Thursday evening’s Allegany County Commissioners meeting. The $152 million budget contains over $34 million for the Board of Education as well as funding for Allegany College of Maryland, the Health Department, and the Allegany County Library System. South Mechanic Street Partially Closed May 30 & 31
South Mechanic Street will be closed to thru traffic between Baltimore Street and Pershing Street between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM on Tuesday, May 30th and Wednesday, May 31st. Signage will be in place to detour passenger vehicles around the road closure. Trucks will be detoured to Queen City Drive. Flaggers will be in place at the Baltimore Street Intersection to allow one lane of traffic to remain open for vehicles travelling between N. Mechanic Street and Baltimore Street. Maryland State Police investigators are continuing an investigation into the death of a state prison inmate
Maryland State Police investigators are continuing an investigation into the death of a state prison inmate that has been ruled a homicide. The inmate is identified as Nicholas Joseph Delfosse, 27. Delfosse was a state prison inmate serving time for burglary at the Jessup Correctional Institution in Jessup, Md. Delfosse was pronounced deceased at the scene by Anne Arundel County Emergency Medical Service personnel. A suspect, also an inmate, has been identified.
