Governor Wes Moore has signed an executive order doubling Maryland's energy conservation goal for state-owned buildings from a 10% decrease by 2029 to a 20% decrease by 2031. The order will ensure that Maryland’s state government leads by example in addressing the harmful impacts of climate change while saving taxpayers money through reduced state utility costs. The order directs the Maryland Green Building Council to update the High-Performance Green Building Program to ensure that all new buildings and major renovations that are subject to the program align with Maryland’s goal to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045.
Friday’s Day of Caring and Sharing was a time for volunteers to come out, clean up and revitalize sites across the county. County United Way Director Michele Walker reflected on the day and the many helping hands that made it a success.

On Thursday, May 18, 2023 at approximately 5:20 AM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 600 block of Bedford Street for an overdose. Police attempted to provide aid to the patient until the Cumberland Fire Department arrived on scene. During this time, a subject identified as Jaren Brunson interfered with officers performing their duties and caused a disturbance. Brunson yelled at the officers and refused to listen to their orders. Brunson then walked outside and began screaming, disrupting other people in the vicinity. On Thursday, May 18, 2023 at approximately 9:22 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the area of Queen City Pavement for an assault in progress. Police arrived on scene and contacted witnesses who reported that the subjects involved in the fight had left the area. The subjects were later located in the area of Park Street. The suspect was identified as Angela Dennison. It was reported that Dennison struck the victim in the face. The alleged victim had sustained injuries. The warrants were issued as the result of Perry failing to appear in court on original charges of driving on a suspended license. Perry was arrested and transported to Central Booking.
