Wade, West Virginia Governor Jim Justice said Thursday he will make good on his promise to call lawmakers back to Charleston for a special session on West Virginia abortion rights. On Wednesday night, West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey released a memorandum saying that an abortion law in the West Virginia State Code from the 1800s is enforceable. That law is older than the state and would make abortion a felony in West Virginia. After consulting with legislators and the state’s legal team, Justice said he is prepared to move forward…

EPA is a setback for public health and climate action that goes against congressional intent. This troubling decision not only undermines President Joe Biden’s whole-of-government approach to combatting dangerous carbon pollution, but also makes it more challenging to meet our nation’s…

Supreme Court limits EPA in curbing power plant emissions
In a blow to the fight against climate change, the Supreme Court on Thursday limited how the nation’s main anti-air pollution law can be used to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from power plants. By a 6-3 vote, with conservatives in the majority, the court said that the Clean Air Act does not give the Environmental Protection Agency broad authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from power plants that contribute to global warming. The court’s ruling could complicate the administration’s plans to combat climate change. Its proposal to regulate power plant emissions is expected by the end of the year. President Joe Biden aims…
