Ridgeley man Charged Assault and Attempted Assault Law Enforcement

On Saturday, August 20, 2022 at approximately 5:49 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to Canal Place in reference to an assault.  Upon arrival, police contacted the caller as well as other witnesses.  It was reported that a female was observed to be in distress and crying along the canal tow path.  A witness observed a male subject, later identified as Nathan Tallman, strangle the female.  A witness attempted to intervene and was assaulted by Tallman.  Officers began searching the area in an attempt to locate Tallman and the female.  An officer heard a female yelling for help…

BENCH WARRANT SERVED SATURDAY

On Friday, August 19, 2022, the Cumberland Police Department served a bench warrant on Daniel Monrose Jr.  The warrant was issued as a result of Monrose violating his probation.  He was originally charged with Concealing a Dangerous Weapon and CDS Possession-Not Marijuana.    He was later seen by a District Court Commissioner for his initial appearance and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center without bond. TRESPASSING ARREST

On Friday, August 19, 2022 at approximately 8:15 AM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the Frederick Street Parking Garage for a trespassing complaint.  Daniel Gibson was located inside the garage.  He has been told on numerous occasions to not be on the property.  Gibson was arrested and transported to police headquarters.  He was later released on a criminal citation.  ARRESTED:  Daniel Keith Gibson III   AGE:  26      Cumberland, MD CHARGES:  Trespassing: Posted Property

Governor Hogan Wraps Up Eastern Shore Tour With Stops in Cambridge and Kent Narrows

Governor Larry Hogan today wrapped up his four-day Eastern Shore Tour with visits to Cambridge and Kent Narrows, marking another milestone for Chesapeake Bay restoration. Governor Hogan joined the Oyster Recovery Partnership (ORP) in Kent Narrows to mark its 10 billionth oyster planting, an important part of Chesapeake Bay restoration efforts. This year, Maryland watermen had the best wild oyster they’ve had in 35 years, landing more than 500,000 bushels. The governor presented a citation to ORP, which partners with the Department of Natural Resources to conduct these plantings.

Water Line work will interupt service in Decatur Heights area

The City of Cumberland Engineering Department, on behalf of Belt Construction, has announced that water service will continue to affected the Decatur Heights and Downtown regions of the City from Monday, August 22, 2022, thru Thursday, August 25, 2022, from 8am – 5pm, in order for the contractor to connect the new water main to the existing crosstown water main.  Residents of the Decatur Heights and Downtown Region will experience intermittent shutdowns and reductions in pressure beginning on Monday, 8/22/2022, as crews work to connect the new water main to the existing system. GOP candidate for Governor opposes plan for earlier count of mail-in ballots

Earlier this week, the State Board of Elections voted to go to court to ask for permission to speed up the count of mail-in ballots for the General Election. WBAL reports now one of the candidates for governor is objecting. Republican nominee for governor Dan Cox says the move by the State Board of Elections to ask a court for permission to count mail-in ballots once they are received is unconstitutional since only the legislature can make changes to election laws.  He also says the count would be under disparate and unequal standards since mail-in ballots would be counted early, and Election Day ballots would be counted after polls closed. 

SHA Wraps Garrett Bridge Project

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) has officially completed the replacement of the MD 39 (Hutton Road) bridge over the Youghiogheny River in the Town of Crellin in Garrett County. The $10 million project replaced a structure built in 1923, and was part of Governor Hogan’s $1.97 billion investment in Maryland’s highways and bridges announced in 2015.  The bridge project was accomplished in two construction stages. Stage one was completed in 2019 and included sewer line relocation, drainage structure construction and stormwater management facility construction. Allegany County Returns to High COVID-19 Community Level

Allegany County has returned to a high COVID-19 community level. The CDC uses data on COVID-19 hospitalizations and cases to determine if a county’s COVID-19 community level is low, medium, or high. COVID-19 community levels are updated weekly.     When a community reaches a high COVID-19 community level, the CDC recommends that individuals wear a high-quality mask in public indoor areas.
