City Man charged for climbing on to the steam engine at Canal Place
On February 6th, 2023 officers of the Cumberland Police Department served a Criminal Summons on Nicholas Kenneth Donaldson. The Criminal Summons was issued by the District Court stemming from an incident on January 29th, 2023 in the teen block of Canal Street. During the Incident officers responded for an intoxicated male, later identified as Donaldson, climbing on a locomotive and creating a disturbance. Officers conducted their investigation, interviewed witnesses, and gathered evidence that allowed officers to identify Donaldson as the suspect. On February 6th, 2023 officers of the Cumberland Police Department served an Arrest Warrant on Amber Lynn Warner. The Arrest Warrant was issued by the District Court when Warner violated the conditions of her probation. Warner was taken before a District Court Commissioner where she was held on a $1,000 bond. The future of the former Cumberland Bike Trail Connection at Canal Place has been unsettled since May of last year when the owner, Doug Hutchins passed away following a lengthy illness, however there is some encouraging news with a new tenent ready to step up. WBAL reports the framework to create a legal recreational marijuana market in Maryland is now in the hands of the General Assembly. In a major development last week, the 120-page bill was submitted to the House and Senate, detailing how to award licenses, regulate the sale of and set tax rates for cannabis. Downtown Mall redesign meeting set for February 23rd
Downtown business owners and leaseholders can expect disruptions that could adversely affect their operations during the upcoming 18-month construction project on Baltimore Street. Those stakeholders will have an opportunity later this month to have all their questions answered about the possible impacts. The project, first introduced in 2016, includes replacement of underground utility lines and installation of high-speed fiber optics cable. Following the subterranean work, Baltimore Street will be reinstalled through the pedestrian mall as a one-way access road traveling east from Mechanic Street. Governor Wes Moore today issued the following statement regarding the FBI investigation and intervention in preventing planned attacks on Maryland’s electrical substations. “I want to commend the F.B.I. and our state homeland security team for their swift action in preventing a potentially catastrophic attack on several of Maryland’s electrical substations. Our state and local law enforcement authorities are working in partnership with the F.B.I. to assist with any follow-up investigative work they need.
