City Man arrrested on Destruction of Property charges
On Friday at approximately 11:30 AM the Cumberland City Police Department were dispatched to a business in the 12000 block of Willow Brook Road for a disturbance. Upon arrival officers contacted Loy Linaweaver whom was still yelling at staff. Officers learned that Linaweaver had destroyed a chair and was threatening to assault the staff. Linaweaver was placed under arrest without issue and transported to the Allegany County Detention Center for central booking. Maryland casinos, including Rocky Gap had a slower holiday season, down from 2021
Gaming revenue was lower in December almost across the board at Maryland’s casinos. Monthly numbers released by Maryland Lottery and Gaming shows the six casinos generated a combined $165.2 million in revenue from slot machines and table games in December — down 4.5% from December 2021. Of that total, $69.7 million is collected for various state programs, the lion’s share of which goes to the state’s Education Trust Fund. Chesapeake Bay still in poor health says State of the Bay report
The health of the Chesapeake Bay remains unchanged from a D+ in 2020 and 2018, according to a biennial report from the Chesapeake Bay Foundation that showed mixed results from pollution control efforts. The State of the Bay report looks at 13 indicators including pollution, habitats and fisheries in the Bay, and compares them to what the status of the Bay would have been before European colonization in the 1600s. City Evaluating Reuse of Baltimore Street Assets
The City of Cumberland’s evaluation of Baltimore Street assets, such as light poles, benches, bike racks, trash cans, etc., is currently an internal process, with the hope being that the bulk of the items can find a new use at other City locations. City staff will be submitting requests up until January 20th, at which time a final review will determine which assets can be repurposed and which will be made available to other entities. US hiring stays brisk as employers add 223,000 jobs
America’s employers added a solid 223,000 jobs in December, evidence that the economy remains healthy yet also a sign that the Federal Reserve may still have to raise interest rates aggressively to slow growth and cool inflation.
