You can wake up Labor Day morning to a special CBS Labor Day program on WCBC 1270 AM and 103.1 FM.  Starting at 6am in place of the Dave Norman Show, CBS host Gil Gross will examine different issues including the surge in union memberships and problems people are facing in unionizing, concerns over AI substitutes for live actors in the film industry, and how the Pullman Strike of 1894 still affects labor today.

Minor Accident For School Bus

From Allegany County Public Schools:  Today, August 29, 2025, there was a minor vehicle accident involving an ACPS school bus. Cumberland City Police responded. There were no injuries reported. However, there was a slight delay to some bus pick up times.  

Superintendent Ready for Great Year At ACPS

BPW Approves Wastewater, Park Spending

Maryland’s Board of Public Works approved spending on projects that will benefit Allegany County at this week’s meeting. The Town of Luke received just under $11,000 for Pratt Street Park resurfacing along with benches and Cumberland’s Fairmount Avenue Park will be able to install pickleball courts and a community garden with $225,000 from the BPW. Five wastewater treatment plants across the county also received funding for work, totaling $700,000.

WV Attorney General Joins In Warning to AI Companies

West Virginia Attorney General JB McCuskey is joining a bipartisan coalition of 44 attorneys general with a warning for major artificial intelligence companies to stop hurting children. A letter sent to companies including Apple, Meta, and Microsoft addresses reports of AI chatbots engaging in inappropriate conversations with children as young as eight. The letter urges AI developers to incorporate guardrails against sexualizing children.

Maryland Court Strikes Down Anti-DEI Policy In Schools

The US District Court of Maryland says the Department of Education cannot withhold funding schools that fail to remove initiatives related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Maryland chapter of the American Federation of Teachers challenged a letter from the DOE in February, citing First Amendment violations. Cyber Security Moves HQ To Baltimore

Governor Wes Moore cut the ribbon on the new global headquarters of Iron Circle, a cybersecurity education provider, in Columbia Maryland.  The business relocated from Florida, attracted by the region's cyber and technology talent pool. More than 200 jobs are expected to come to the state through their AI cybersecurity platform. Colleges Receive Federal Funding

U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Angela Alsobrooks and U.S. Representative April McClain Delaney announced almost $700,000 in federal funding to higher education institutions in Western Maryland to support low-income and first-generation students, and students with disabilities as they pursue their degree. Grants have been awarded to Frostburg State University – $412,173, and $272,364 to Allegany College of Maryland for the TRIO Student Support Services program, which supports preparation and guidance for students as they pursue education beyond high school.
