Hogan sees Mid-Term Voter Apathy

With just two weeks out until the primary, polls show Maryland's top-tier gubernatorial candidates are tied in their respective parties. Maryland’s current governor says there does appear to be some apathy among voters in this mid-tern primary. The latest poll results indicates the race is a toss-up in both the Democratic and Republican primaries. Of those polled, 35% remain undecided in the Democratic primary, while 63% who have decided said they could change their mind. WV AG Comments on EPA Challenges

The Securities and Exchange Commission’s climate risk disclosure rule now has an even bigger target on its back. West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey said as much at a recent press conference after the Supreme Court curbed EPA’s ability to regulate planet-warming emissions. He argued that the Biden administration and agencies including the SEC have intentionally sidestepped Congress to fight climate change and that his and other Republican states’ challenge against EPA is just their first effort to fight back…                                                         

Nearly 100 DUI Arrests in Maryland over Holiday Weekend

Enforcement efforts throughout the Independence Day weekend led to the arrests of almost 100 people who are suspected of driving under the influence. From Friday, July 1st, through Monday, July 4th, police arrested 95 impaired drivers during regular road patrols throughout the state and a joint DUI saturation patrol focused on Route 50.  The full-time drunk driving enforcement team of troopers known as the State Police Impaired Driving Reduction Effort, or S.P.I.D.R.E. team, funded by the Maryland Highway Safety Office also worked the initiative.  

Trone Secures Over $500,000 for the City of Frostburg in Government Funding Bill

Congressman David Trone (MD-06) announced that he secured $531,718 for the construction of a new childcare center for the City of Frostburg as part of the FY 2023 Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies funding bill. After being approved by the House Committee on Appropriations – of which Trone is a member – the bill now advances to the U.S. House for passage in the coming month.   The funding will be used for the construction of the Frostburg Childcare Center within the Frostburg Community Park. Gov. Hogan orders MSP to suspend ‘good and substantial reason standard’ for gun permits

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan on Tuesday announced that he has directed the Maryland State Police to suspend the "good and substantial reason" standard when reviewing applications for wear and carry gun permits in the state. WBAL reports the action comes after the Supreme Court's decision on gun control, ruling New York's law, that requires a good reason before someone can carry a gun outside their home, is unconstitutional. Friends of Flight 93 group names Gibson executive director

The Friends of Flight 93 organization has named longtime ambassador and board member Donna Gibson as its next executive director. In doing so, Gibson will lead the Friends of Flight 93's ongoing partnership and fundraising efforts and oversee day-to-day operations, the group wrote in a release to media. The Friends of Flight 93 serves as a support arm of the Flight 93 National Memorial – helping share the stories of the 40 fallen passengers and crew members remembered as heroes and raising funds to support the site that honors them.

Judge finds for 3 drug distributors in W.Va. opioid lawsuit

A federal judge on Monday ruled in favor of three major U.S. drug distributors in a landmark lawsuit that accused them of causing a health crisis by distributing 81 million pills over eight years in one West Virginia county ravaged by opioid addiction. The verdict came nearly a year after closing arguments in a bench trial in the lawsuit filed by Cabell County and the city of Huntington against AmerisourceBergen Drug Co., Cardinal Health Inc. and McKesson Corp.
