Water Service to be interupted in Decatur Heights area on Wednesday

The City of Cumberland Engineering Department, on behalf of Belt Construction, would like to notify the public that water service will be shut down in the Decatur Heights region of the City on Wednesday, June 22 from 8am – 12pm (noon), in order for the contractor to repair a portion of the existing system. MDH announces $700,000 HHS grant to enhance telehealth services in family planning sites

The Maryland Department of Health (MDH) has been awarded a one-year, $699,987 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to support statewide efforts to improve health equity by expanding telehealth services in family planning and preventive care service sites.    MDH will use the funds through May 31, 2023, to provide telehealth capacity-building training and technical assistance to 11 local health departments and three non-profit family planning clinics, thereby expanding access to family planning and preventive services appointments in sites throughout Maryland.   MDH’s Maryland Family Planning Program (MFPP) was one of only 31 programs chosen…

$41.6 Million to Early Childhood Education Programs for Maryland

Warrants for Stalking, Theft served

On June 20th, 2022, The Cumberland City Police arrested Stephen Kenneth Heath, 33, of Cumberland MD. Heath was arrested on an outstanding Arrest Warrant issued by the Allegany County District Court. The Warrant was issued as a result of an incident that occurred on June 18th, 2022. During that incident, it is alleged that Heath violated the terms and conditions of a Protective Order issued by the Allegany County District Court. Two Arrested After Police Respond to Assault

On June 20th, 2022, The Cumberland City Police responded to a residence in the 300 block of Grand Ave. for the report of an assault. Upon arrival, contact was made with Jessica Nicole Porter, 34, and Douglas Bryan Combs, 59, both of Cumberland MD. Both were suffering from minor head and facial injuries sustained in the reported assault. Investigation revealed that an argument had occurred between Porter and Combs over Porter being locked out of the residence. An argument then ensued after Porter gained access to the home. New Gender Inclusion Policy in sports generates Controversy

FINA, swimming’s international governing body, is facing backlash over the new "gender inclusion policy" that was approved Sunday setting the standard for transgender athletes’ participation in the sport. The "gender inclusion policy" will only permit swimmers who transitioned before the age of 12 to compete in women’s events. In March, Lia Thomas made history in the United States as the first transgender woman to win an NCAA swimming championship, the 500-yard freestyle. City to Support Canal Place Concert Series

Following through on a pledge made last year, the Cumberland Mayor and City Council is expected to approve $20,000 annually for the next three years to support the Canal Place Concert Series Project. Shade calls lawmakers Tone Deaf on Gas Tax issue

President Joe Biden said Monday that he’s considering a federal holiday on the gasoline tax, possibly saving Americans as much as 18.4 cents a gallon. Such a move would be welcome relief for Marylanders who are facing an automatic gas tax hike come July 1st. UPMC Western Maryland recently received the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR Chest Pain-MI Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2022.
