Allegany College of Maryland is pleased to announce the receipt of a $749,215 Nurse Support Program II (NSP II) grant from the [Maryland] Health Services Cost Review Commission through the Maryland Higher Education Commission. ACM received the second highest NSP II grant award in the State. GRANT STRENGTHENS CAPACITY The goal of NSP II grants is to expand the capacity to educate nurses by increasing faculty and strengthening nursing education programs at Maryland institutions. Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest on Greene Street
On Monday, June 6, 2022 at approximately 7:39 AM, an officer of the Cumberland Police Department conducted a traffic stop on George Street for a traffic violation. The officer identified the operator as James Whetstone. The officer requested a K-9 officer to respond to the scene. A K-9 scan resulted in a positive alert to the odor of drugs. A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of a quantity of suspected controlled dangerous substances. Whetstone was arrested and transported to police headquarters. Police Make Disturbance Arrest on Virginia Avenue
On Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at approximately 2:16 AM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business on Virginia Avenue for a disturbance. Police contacted Matthew Zink who was responsible for causing the disturbance. Zink was told by officers to leave the property and not to return. At approximately 3:56 AM, officers were called to the business for Zink causing another disturbance. One Defendant Enters Plea Deal in Largest Poaching Case
The Cumberland Times News reports another plea agreement that exchanged jail time for house arrest was made in West Virginia’s largest known deer poaching case that started earlier this year and includes eight defendants, three counties and nearly 30 illegally killed bucks.
