ACM Announces Spring Registration, Scholarship Week

Allegany College of Maryland invites new students to register for courses for the spring 2023 semester. Registration opens Monday, Nov. 7. Third arrest made in 2019 Mineral double-homicide

The Mineral County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday that a third person was arrested this week in connection with the 2019 killings of two people at a remote Burlington home, the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday. Dillon Shawn Cleaver, 28, of Capon Bridge, was charged Monday with first-degree murder and was being held at the Potomac Highlands Regional Jail without bond, Lt. Chris Leatherman said. The Nov. 18, 2019, incident at 74 Maple Hollow Lane resulted in the deaths of Donald L. Rutter, 32, and Destiny C. Foster, 25. The residence is located about 3 miles from U.S. Route 50….

All County Chorus

On Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at 7 p.m. at Fort Hill High School, Allegany County Public Schools will present its first countywide honors choral festival since 2019.  It will feature outstanding middle and high school singers coming together for two brief, yet unforgettable, concerts in one evening.     First, the Middle School All-County Chorus will be conducted by Michelle Rafter, a Washington County choral educator who has conducted Allegany County students several times in her career.  Her concert will consist of storied and varied choral repertoire, including a premier of a middle school arrangement of “Bring a Song,” by Christopher…

State Police Investigating series of Burglaries in Garrett County

Troopers from the Maryland State Police, McHenry Barrack, are currently investigating several burglaries and thefts in the Friendsville area of Garrett County, Maryland.  These crimes have occurred at several different residences close to the West Virginia and Pennsylvania state borders.   If anyone has information about these crimes, law enforcement is requesting you contact the McHenry Barrack duty officer at 301-397-1101, or by email at msp.mchenry@maryland.gov.  Callers may remain anonymous.

ACPS Bus #170 for the Community Based Transition Program and South Penn Elementary School will not be running this morning due to mechanical issues. Parents are asked to find alternate transportation or contact the school with any issues. 

Cumberland Police make DUI Arrest on Arch Street, Serve Warrant

On October 27th, 2022 at approximately 6:25 pm an officer of the Cumberland Police Department observed a vehicle to be traveling the wrong direction on in the 200 block of Arch Street. The officer contacted the operator, Forest Corley, and observed signs of impairment. After performing Standardized Field Sobriety, the officer observed further evidence of impairment. Corley was placed under arrest for driving under the influence and later released on citations. Arrest: Forest Lee Corley, age 69, Cumberland Maryland. State Senate candidates Tackle Abortion

Delegate Mike McKay said this week that he believes the abortion issue in Maryland was settled by vote in 1992 and he does not plan to submit legislation to seek changes to the current law. McKay’s comments came during WCBC’s  political forum featuring candidates for the Maryland District 1 Senate seat. McKay, a Republican, is facing Democrat Mike Dreisbach in the November 8 general election. The winner will fill the seat made available by the retirement of Sen. George Edwards. Longtime Rolling Mill Holdout sells property

It was 2015 when the Cumberland Mayor and City Council signed off on moving forward with a planned commercial development in the Rolling Mill neighborhood- but despite the delays and setbacks the efforts continue and the latest target date to see businesses open is spring of next year. The Maryland Avenue Redevelopment project calls for a plaza off Exit 43 of Interstate 68. The developer, Ed Scott of Frederick, hopes to place a hotel, sit-down and fast service restaurant, convenience store and retail shops at the site to be called Cumberland Gateway Plaza. Maryland Early voting begins today

Early voting begins today in Maryland. In Allegany County, those who want to cast a ballot early can head to the polls at the county’s Kelly Road office complex from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 27- Nov. 3. Drop boxes for mail-in ballots in Allegany County are available outside the Kelly Road office complex in Cumberland and Mountain Ridge High School in Frostburg. Mail-in ballots can be requested by mail until Nov. 1 and through an emailed link until Nov. 4. The drop boxes will be available until 8 p.m. on Election Day.
