Lagratte receives Blough Memorial Scholarship

The Myron E. Blough Memorial Scholarship, awarded annually to the top Allegany College of Maryland pharmacy technician student by the PharmaCareNetwork, was presented to Chyna Lagratta. Presenting the award is Joe Glass, ACM instructor.  Lagratta, a resident of Ellerslie, is a 2019 graduate of the Career and Technical Center/Allegany High School. Lagratta graduated from the college’s pharmacy technician program with 3.64 GPA in December of 2021 and was hired by PharmaCare

Police Serve Burglary Arrest Warrant

The Cumberland Police served an Arrest Warrant on Alex McDonald, age 30, of Cumberland, MD.  The arrest warrant was issued by the Allegany County District Court. The investigation was conducted by the Cumberland Police on May 16, 2022 and a suspect was identified. Through the investigation it was learned that Alex McDonald unlawfully entered a residence on Washington Street, Cumberland Maryland. McDonald unlawfully entered the residence to commit a theft of a dog. McDonald gained access to the house by removing an air conditioning unit and entered through a window. Foldi Takes Trone to Task on Lack of Availability to Constituents

Republican Matthew Foldi, an investigative reporter turned political candidate, made a tour of Maryland’s Sixth Congressional District this week highlighting that the local offices of Representative David Trone are routinely closed-  often pointing to COVID protocols as the reason.  Foldi is one of six Republicans challenging the incumbent Democrat and he visited Cumberland on Tuesday. Parents Push Back on Kindergarten Gender Identity Instruction

The Maryland State Department of Education  is instructing kindergarten classrooms to teach about gender identity, and says that teachers in the state are not required to inform parents about their child’s desire to change genders. Parents across the state are now taking the fight to local school boards. The framework created by the state school board advises schools to teach children as young as five and six about how to “recognize a range of ways people express their identity and gender.” Not surprisingly this has become a hot topic-  with many parents pushing back…

Hogan Signs 140 Additional Bills into Law

Maryland Governor Larry Hogan this week signed an additional 140 bills into law following 105 bipartisan bills he signed on Thursday. Hogan was joined by House Speaker Adrienne  Jones and Senate President Bill Ferguson when he signed bills that included the Insulin Reduction Act to cap the cost of insulin, the Dementia Services Act to expand dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease resources, and allow paramedics and EMTs to administer vaccines. Mineral County Sheriff’s deputy under house arrest in a plea deal

A former Mineral County Sheriff's deputy is under house arrest in a plea deal that allowed him to avoid jail time in return for his testimony against multiple defendants in West Virginia's largest deer poaching case. West Virginia Jatural Resources police conducted an investigation that led to 223 charges involving at 27 bucks taken illegally in Mineral Hampshire and Garrett county's from mid September to late December.
