Cumberland Council Opens Year with Tuesday Meeting

The Cumberland Mayor and City Council have schedule public sessions on Tuesday of the coming week. A work session will be held in the conference room on the second floor of city hall at 5:00 PM, while the regularly scheduled public meeting will be held at 6:15 PM in Council Chambers.

Hogan to Appear on CNN Sunday

The last we heard from Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, he had tested positive for Coronavirus and was having mild symptoms. Today, Hogan was scheduled to appear live during the 9:00 AM hour on the CNN Program State of the Union. He has made the program a regular stop during the pandemic.

Maryland Opens New COVID Testing to Meet Demand

The State of Maryland opened mass testing sites in Annapolis and Bel Air…downstate…in response to an increased demand during the Christmas-New Years holiday period. Locally, testing has seen an increase in demand at the Allegany County Fairgrounds, but there have been no long waits Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The regular testubg schedule is to resume this week.

Woman Held after Warrants Served

On December 31, City Police served two arrest warrants on Kristian Leigh Thompson, age 30 of Cumberland.  The warrants charged Thompson with Violation of Probation. She also had an additional warrant out of West Virginia, which was used as a detainer. Thompson was taken to Central Booking for her initial appearance with the District Court Commissioner and was held without bond.   Arrested: Kristian Leigh Thompson Age: 30 Cumberland MD Charges: Violation of Probation  

Woman Charged with Missing Trial Date

On New Years Eve, Cumberland Police served an arrest warrant on Candace Larae Mallow, age 41. of the city. The warrant charged Mallow with Failure to Appear for a court date for an original Theft charge. The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of December 30, 2021, there are currently 11,017 active COVID-19 cases statewide. MSP Seeking Talbot County Murder Suspect

Maryland State Police are looking for a man who is suspected of murdering a woman last week in Talbot County. A felony warrant for first-degree murder has been issued for Mauricio Ibarra Juarez, 31, of Winchester, Virginia. Juarez is suspected in the fatal shooting on Christmas Eve of Marta Merina, 33, of Trappe, Maryland. Merina was found with an apparent gunshot wound early Christmas morning. Emergency medical service personnel pronounced her deceased on the scene. Her death has been ruled a homicide. Maryland Department of Health begins to offer oral COVID-19 antiviral medications

The Maryland Department of Health (MDH) today announced that it is working with congregate care facilities, local health clinics, physicians, and pharmacies statewide to distribute the newly authorized antiviral medicines: Paxlovid and Molnupiravir.    These prescription pill regimens are the first oral antiviral treatments given Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for adults who test positive for COVID-19 and who have at least one risk factor for serious disease from COVID.    Both Paxlovid and Molnupiravir are prescribed in a five-day pill regimen.
