The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) has completed a project replacing the bridge deck and rehabilitating the superstructure of the MD 51 (Industrial Boulevard) bridge over MD 61 (Canal Parkway) in Cumberland. President Joe Biden, first lady to visit Maryland Thursday

The Maryland Democratic Party announced that President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will make an appearance in Maryland in August. The grassroots event will take place at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday. Other speakers are also expected to attend. Biden had a 71% approval rating in June among Democrats in a Goucher College Poll for The Baltimore Banner.

Water shutdowns and reduced pressure in Decatur Heights and Downtown

The City of Cumberland Engineering Department, on behalf of Belt Construction, would like to notify the public that residents of the Decatur Heights and Downtown Region will experience intermittent shutdowns and reductions in pressure throughout the evening on Monday, 8/22/2022, as crews work to connect the new water main to the existing system. Governor Hogan Announces Maryland Manufacturing 4.0 Grant Program

Governor Larry Hogan today announced the launch of the Maryland Manufacturing 4.0 grant program, a new Maryland Department of Commerce initiative that provides grants to small and mid-sized Maryland manufacturers to invest in Industry 4.0 technologies to modernize their operations. Farmers now eligible for Solar Grant Program

The Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) today announced the opening of the Fiscal Year 23 (FY23) Solar Canopy and Dual Use Technology Grant Program. This program provides funding to businesses, nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, state agencies, and local governments. For the first time the program has been opened to farmers operating as sole proprietors.  With funds provided through the Strategic Energy Investment Fund, the program encourages development of solar canopies over parking lots and parking garages. Police Make Burglary Arrest

On Sunday, August 21, 2022 at approximately 11:11 AM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a Baltimore Street business for a breaking and entering complaint.  Police contacted the caller who reported that she arrived at the facility to work.  She explained that when she went to retrieve the keys for the secured rooms, she was approached by a dog who began barking at her.  She then observed an unknown male, later identified as Gerald Moore Jr, inside the building.  She then called the police.   Moore was later located at a different location and positively identified as the suspect. …

The Cumberland Mayor and City Council took time during the regular public meeting to recognize dozens of individuals who have supported the community through the planning and execution of festivals and events.
