Maryland nearing 400 Monkeypox cases
The CDC said there are more than 15,000 known monkeypox cases in the US and the most recent update says 30 more Marylanders have contracted the virus. WBAL reports that brings the state's total closer to 400 and for the first time and Maryland is now reporting more cases than Washington, D.C. The White House said on Monday that nearly 2 million doses would be shipped to the states, but it's unclear how many will come here to Maryland.
Maryland’s State Small Business Credit Initiative Programs now Open
Governor Larry Hogan today announced Maryland programs funded by the State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI) are open. Up to $198 million in federal small business relief is being administered by three state agencies: the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), the Maryland Department of Commerce, and the Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO). ACPS Encourages Motorists to Obey School Bus Laws
Allegany County Public Schools will open for the 2022-2023 school year on Wednesday. Nearly 6,000 students will ride school buses traveling more than 1.5 million miles this school year. According to the ACPS Supervisor of Transportation, HB Martz, “Back to school is an exciting time, and it’s up to all of us to keep our roads safe. Police Make Arrest After Disturbance
just after midnight officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business in the 400 block of Virginia Avenue for a reported disturbance. Upon officer’s arrival they spoke with employees who advised that Samuel Resnick had been harassing patrons of the business, and advised they wanted him removed from the property. Officers advised Resnick to leave the property, not to return, and to refrain from causing any further disturbances. Allegany County schools open Wednesday
Allegany County Public Schools will open to students tomorrow- and as usual it will be with a three-hour early dismissal. Pre-kindergarten and kindergarten begin Aug. 29. Schools will be closed Sept. 5 for Labor Day. The first semester ends Jan. 13. May 19 is the last day for seniors. June 9 is the last day for other students and marks the end of the second semester. Farmers Market to Move with Baltimore Street Construction
The Thursday farmers market on Cumberland’s downtown mall is expected to move to Canal Place next year as construction work on the Baltimore Street redesign will get underway in earnest. Downtown Development Commission Executive Director Melinda Kelleher said those plans have been discussed in recent meeting with the market’s board. The farmers market begins each year in April and runs through the end of October which is about the same time construction on the renovation is expected to be in full swing in 2023. Hogan’s Goal of Broadband Access Continues in Final Months of Tenure
With just five months remaining in office, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan is planning to visit every region of the state- and he hopes to see viable broadband access wherever he goes. Hogan has made internet availability one of the focal points of his administration allocating significant funding statewide but in particular to the Eastern Shore and western panhandle.
