TRAFFIC ALERT: Mishap in Cresaptown

The Joint Communications Center of Allegany County reports a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of US 220 and Winchester Road in Cresaptown.   Police, fire and EMS units were reported enroute just after 6:00PM. Authorities are advising caution for travelers due to the high winds.

Scam Alert Issued for Ukraine Fundraising

The Maryland Secretary of State and Attorney General are warning that while appeals for charitable donations may surge as the crisis in Ukraine escalates, it is important to do research before giving. There are a number of ways to donate to Ukraine-related causes, while ensuring donations are given to a reputable organization. “Scam artists seek every opportunity possible to prey on the generosity of well-intended donors,” said Secretary of State John C. County COVID Numbers Drop Again

The Allegany County Health Department reports that the county’s COVID-19 case rate continues to decline.  As of March 6 the case rate for Allegany County was 14.61 per 100,000 people, down from 19.07 on Friday.  Only 15 new COVID cases were recorded in the county since Friday, and no additional deaths were reported.  Last Thursday, the CDC downgraded Allegany County’s COVID-19 community level from “high” to “medium.”  The CDC updates its county-level COVID-19 community levels weekly on Thursdays.   The next youth Pfizer vaccine clinic (ages 5 to 11) is slated for Wednesday, March 9 from 3 to 5 p.m….

Changes Announced For Parking Garage

The Cumberland Police Department would like to notify the public of a change regarding parking at the Centre City Parking Garage on George Street.  The changes being made are in regards to a problem with the current system that is in place.  Starting April 1, 2022, vehicles entering the Centre City Parking Garage will enter the garage from South George Street.  After entering the garage, the first three levels, 1-3 will be designated for permit holders only.  Levels 4-6 will be one hour parking for non-permit holders.  Parking will continue to be free of charge on weekdays after 5pm, on…

Police Make Assault Arrest

On Sunday, March 6, 2022 at approximately 11:17 AM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 200 block of Race Street for a 911 hang-up.  Upon officers’ arrival, they contacted an alleged victim who reported that she was assaulted by the suspect who was identified as Larry Casey.  After further investigation, it was learned that Casey had struck the victim in the face with his hand.  Officers observed injuries to the victim.  Casey was arrested and transported to the police station.  He was then transported to Central Booking at the Allegany County Detention Center.  He…
