Woman Held After Violation of Probation

Cumberland City Police Saturday arrested Keri Ann Donaldson, 31, of Cumberland. Donaldson was arrested on an active Bench Warrant issued by the Allegany County District Court for violating the conditions of probation. Donaldson was taken before a District Court Commissioner for her initial appearance where she was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. She is currently being held without bond. Vandals Damage Arch Street Vehicles

On Saturday, Cumberland City Police responded to multiple city residences for reports of destruction of property. Officers discovered that multiple vehicles in the area of Arch Street had been damaged throughout the night. Damage to the vehicles included broken windows and mirrors. The Cumberland Police ask that anyone with information regarding these incidents to please call (301)777-1600.  

Rollover Collision Shuts Down Busy City Intersection Saturday

Cumberland City Police responded to the intersection of Queen City Dr and N. Centre St Saturday for the report of a motor vehicle crash with a rollover. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a Subaru Impreza had struck a Honda CRV after it failed to stop at the red light. The Honda then rolled over in the roadway. The Cumberland Fire Dept. responded to provide medical treatment to the drivers on scene. The roadway was closed for approximately 1 hour for vehicle and debris removal.

Cumberland Officials Weigh ARPA Projects Tuesday

The Cumberland Mayor and City Council will hold a work session Tuesday afternoon at 5:00 PM. Highlighting the agenda will be a discussion of how the city should use millions of dollars in funding awarded through the American Rescue Plan Act, and then coming up with a list of what projects should be at the top of the list. City Council is expected to extend the agreement with UFCW Local 1994 for an additional year when they meet in regular session Tuesday evening. DNR Issues Final 2021-22 Deer Season Numbers

Frederick County Leads State in Harvest Totals Photo by Patricia Neal, submitted to the 2021 Maryland DNR Photo Contest The Maryland Department of Natural Resources reported that deer hunters harvested 70,845 deer during the combined archery, firearms, and muzzleloader seasons, from Sept. 10, 2021 through Feb. 3, 2022. The statewide harvest included 27,947 antlered and 39,498 antlerless white-tailed deer, plus 1,541 antlered and 1,859 antlerless sika deer. The harvest was 13% lower than the 2020-2021 total of 81,729 deer. “Maryland hunters concluded another successful but challenging deer season,” Wildlife and Heritage Service Director Paul Peditto said. “Fluctuations in the annual harvest are attributable to…

Former Baltimore County Teacher Charted with Soliciting Student

Maryland State Police arrested a Baltimore County man after an investigation led to criminal charges including sexual solicitation of a minor. The accused is identified as Mark Planamente, 38, of Parkville, Md.  He is charged with sexual solicitation of a minor and displaying obscene material to a minor.  Planamente was arrested shortly before 11:00 p.m. yesterday at his residence without incident.  He was taken before a court commissioner for an initial appearance and is being held without bond. The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of February 11, 2022, there are currently 8,076 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been 26 deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 5,992 deaths attributed to COVID-19. City Man Arrested on Assault Charges

On Saturday, the Cumberland City Police Department responded to a residence in the 200 block of Springdale St for the report of an assault. Once on scene, Officers contacted a female victim who advised she had been assaulted by Shawn Steven Hamlette, 24, of Cumberland MD. She further advised that she and Hamlette had been involved in a verbal altercation that turned physical. She alleged that Hamlette struck her in the head multiple times with a glass bottle before fleeing the scene on foot. Officers searched the area and were able to locate Hamlette. Catholic Schools to move to optional masking, where jurisdictions allow

In a letter to parents and guardians, the Archdiocese of Baltimore said they will transition all archdiocesan schools, where jurisdictions allow, to optional masking. The move will take place starting on Feb. 14. WBAL reports that for students, this option will be based on parental choice, according to the letter. Staff and visitors will also have the option to wear a mask or not and the change applies to all individuals, regardless of vaccination status. Schools in Baltimore City will remain masked because the indoor mask mandate remains in place.

Allegany County COVID Numbers getting better, but still among worst in the state

Although the case rate is dropping, Allegany County’s COVID-19 numbers are still among the worst in the state.  The positivity rate is 13% in the county, compared to the state rate of 4.88%. 49 new cases were reported and 3 additional deaths. The county’s fully vaccinated rate is 50.2%, while Maryland is at 73.3%
