Allegany County COVID-19 Case Rate still below State Average

The Allegany County COVID-19 case rate currently stands at 20.49 cases per 100,000 population, below the Maryland rate of 36.4 cases per 100,000. The Allegany County COVID-19 case rate has remained below the Maryland rate for the past two months.   The Allegany County Fairgrounds COVID-19 testing and vaccination sites are temporarily suspended due to an event at the fairgrounds. Testing at the fairgrounds will resume on June 1. Nearly 300 measures to take effect without Gov. Hogan’s signature

Gov. Hogan allowed nearly 300 bills to become law without his signature on Friday during the last day of this year's legislative session. WBAL reports the 294 measures will take effect without signature in accordance with Article II, Section 17(c) of the Maryland Constitution, according to a news release. Hogan also vetoed 18 bills, including one which allowed voters to provide several ways for a missing signature on a mail in-ballot after it had been received by a local elections board. Cumberland man arrested following Assault

On Friday, at approximately 10:02 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 900 block of Maryland Avenue to check on the well-being of a female.  Police contacted the female resident who reported that she had been assaulted by Terrell Peterson.  Officers observed that she had sustained injuries.  After further investigation, Peterson was arrested and transported to Central Booking.  Peterson was later seen by a District Court Commissioner and released on his personal recognizance.   ARRESTED:  Terrell Dijon Peterson          AGE:  27           Cumberland, MD CHARGES:  Assault-2nd Degree

ACPS COVID-19 Update

For the 7-day period of May 20-26, 2022, Northeast Elementary School and Cresaptown Elementary School each had one classroom that met the definition of a Cohort Outbreak.  There were no schools that met the definition of a School Wide Outbreak of COVID-19.   ACPS had 17 staff members and 25 students reported as positive for COVID-19 during this time.  ACPS had 3 staff members and 15 students quarantined as a close contact.    

State Police ready for Memorial Day

With Memorial Day coming up on Monday, Maryland State Police are urging those who plan to celebrate with alcohol to be safe and smart and avoid impaired, distracted and aggressive driving. Police Serve Criminal Summons

Officers of the Cumberland Police served a Criminal Summons on Crystal Rymer. The Criminal Summons was issued by the District Court stemming from an assault that occurred on May 21st, 2022. During the incident officers responded to the first block of Greene Street for a reported assault. Officers spoke with the victim and witnesses of the assault, and learned that Rymer had struck the victim several times while they were seated on the ground. The victim was transported to UPMC Western Maryland for non life threatening injuries. Rymer signed for her Criminal Summons and was released pending her trial at…
