Maryland has a huge $2.5 billion fund balance in the state budget, largely due to federal stimulus aid during the pandemic, the state’s comptroller announced Wednesday. The Cumberland Economic Development Corporation, in partnership with the City of Cumberland is announcing the publication of a request for proposal (RFP) for the re-use and redevelopment of a city-owned asset located at 19 Frederick Street. 2 hurt, 7 arrested after Maryland school fight
Seven students were arrested and two were taken to hospitals after a fight involving a knife broke out Wednesday morning at a Maryland high school, county police said. Annapolis High School was locked down after the fight, which stemmed from a neighborhood dispute, Anne Arundel County Police spokeswoman Lt. Jackie Davis said at a news conference. The injuries, which included cut and puncture wounds, were not considered life-threatening, she said. Calls Mount for Change, More Diversity on Kirwan Accountability Board
More state and local officials are calling on Sen. Paul Pinsky to reverse course and add more diversity to the Accountability and Implementation Board (AIB), which will be charged with implementing the new Kirwan education overhaul statewide, and overseeing tens of billions of taxpayer dollars. Sen. Pinsky’s plan calls for representation from residents from just four of the state’s 24 jurisdictions and only from Central Maryland: Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City, Baltimore County, and Montgomery County. Grantsville Bank Struck by Bullet
On Tuesday trooper's from the McHenry State Police Barracks responded to the First United Bank in Grantsville MD for reported damage to their front door. Upon arrival, Trooper's identified the damage as a bullet hole. The damage was sustained between 5:30 PM Monday 8/27/21 and 8 AM Tuesday 8/28/21. Potomac Park Pit-N-Go robbed at gunpoint
Police are looking for the man who robbed the Pit-N-Go convenience store on McMullen Highway at gunpoint late Tuesday. Maryland State Police said the incident happened about 9:30 p.m. when the suspect entered the store and pointed the gun at three employees. He allegedly stole two money trays from cash registers and fled on foot on Mulberry Avenue. One employee was taken to UPMC Western Maryland The suspect was described as a Black man with medium build. Police Serve Arrest Warrant for Burglary
On September 28th, 2021 officers of the Cumberland Police Department served an Arrest Warrant on Demond Arthur Scott Sr. The Arrest Warrant was issued by the District Court on September 26th, 2021 stemming from a burglary investigation. Scott was taken before a District Court Commissioner where he was held without bond. Arrest: Demond Arthur Scott, age 34, Cumberland Maryland. CDC Names Maryland State with Lowest COVID Numbers
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Maryland is the state with the lowest new COVID-19 case rate in the country, but state health officials say they still need to do a lot of work.
