Police Arrest Man on Trespassing

On Monday at approximately 2:00 PM an officer from the Cumberland City Police Department was patrolling the area of Queen City Drive and observed Rodney Lee Smith enter the rail road tracks area through a broken piece of fencing. In this area there is a clearly marked No Trespassing sign on the fence for CSX property. The officer contacted Smith and informed him of the No Trespassing sign. Smith was issued a Criminal Citation for trespassing on posted property. Smith signed for his copy of the Criminal Citation and was released pending trial in District Court.   Arrested – Rodney…

Police Make Arrest on Protective Order Violation

On Monday at approximately 7:00 AM the Cumberland City Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 600 block of Quebec Avenue for a violation of a court order. Upon arrival officers spoke to the complainant who advised they had a temporary protective order against Kenneth Allen Chandler. Chandler had contacted the victim on a messaging application and advised he was going to come to the residence. River Park Project MOU to be Signed Tuesday

There will be a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony to formalize the working relationship with all the parties involved in the Canal Place River Park Project Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at 3pm at Cumberland City Hall. A Cumberland man has been arrested for a hit and run vehicle crash

The Cumberland City Police Department arrested Robert William Harding III, 53, Cumberland MD yesterday. Harding was arrested on an outstanding Arrest Warrant from an incident that occurred on August 14th, 2021. During that incident, Cumberland Police responded to a business in the 700 block of Park St for the report of a hit and run crash. Upon arrival, officers contacted one of the parties involved who advised Harding had struck their vehicle in the parking lot. Harding then allegedly exited his vehicle and fled the scene on foot. Baltimore Street Re-Opening Plans Being Reviewed

Although talks about re-opening the downtown mall to vehicular traffic began several years ago- to date still no ground breaking ceremony. Cumberland officials however remain optimistic as they say most of the work at this point is being  done behind the scenes. The renovations will begin with the underground replacement of utility lines followed by the reinstallation of Baltimore Street through the mall. It will run one way from Mechanic Street to George Street. The project will end with design upgrades to the streetscape, including new parklets. Maryland Treasurer Announces Bond Sale

Maryland State Treasurer Nancy Kopp has announced  the Board of Public Works has completed the sale of $852.1 million of General Obligation bonds. The overall interest rate for the bonds was 1.3% and the bonds generated $169.3 million in bond premium, which will be used to support various capital costs, as well as $41.4 million in debt service savings between now and 2029. As is always the case with Maryland’s tax-exempt general obligation bonds, the State will use the proceeds to finance important capital projects and improvements, such as public schools, community colleges, university projects, and hospitals.
