Public Speaks out on Comprehensive Plan

MD Delegation Denied Entrance To ICE Facility

Maryland US Senator Chris Van Hollen is speaking out after the Maryland Congressional delegation was denied entrance to an immigrations and custom enforcement, or ICE, facility where they say people are being detained for deportation.  Lawmakers said it was part of their oversight duties to inspect the facility and check detainee conditions…     “Members of Congress, on behalf of their constituents, are allowed to go visit and look at these kind of holding facilities where people are being detained. And, despite the clear meaning of this law, she was told by higher-ups not to let us in.”

Frostburg Man Arrested for Armed Robbery, Assault and Burglary

The Allegany County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigations Unit (C3I), conducted an investigation into a robbery that took place at a business in Ellerslie, MD, around 10:06 AM on Monday, July 28, 2025. Eric Jerome Gamble Jr., a 22-year-old resident of Frostburg, was taken into custody without incident earlier today. He was served with a District Court arrest warrant related to the investigation. After his arrest, Gamble was brought before the District Court Commissioner and was held without bail. Moore Says Hogan’s “Surplus” Has Been Debunked

McKay Hoping Appeal Gets Positive Results

Delegate Jim Hinebaugh along with Senator Mike McKay were in Westernport on Sunday to hear from Maryland Governor Wes Moore on the denial of FEMA funding for flood recovery.  McKay said all hands are on deck to help get the community put back together and things are looking more positive for the appeal…     “The community as a whole has come together now we just need to make sure that this application to get the denial to turn into a smile, then get the funding. Hopefully get the $15.8 million dollars.”

Meritus Medical Center Receives Stars of Life Award

Meritus Medical Center’s Emergency Department was honored with the Maryland Stars of Life award from the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services. Meritus is one of only three ER’s in the state receiving the award, having reached certain benchmarks in service and care in partnership with emergency medical services. Meritus is the fifth-busiest ER in the state, seeing around 60,000 patients a year and has seen 11,000 EMS patients so far in 2025.

BENCH WARRANTS SERVED

On Monday, July 28, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department served a bench warrant on Bonnie Williams.  The warrant was issued as the result of Williams failing to appear in court on original charges of CDS: Possess Paraphernalia (x2).  Williams was arrested and later seen by a District Court Commissioner for a bond hearing.  At the conclusion, Williams posted a $500 unsecured personal bond. UPMC Receives Major Philanthropic Gift

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center received a major donation form the Kamin Family Foundation.  Daniel and Carole Kamin have been long-time supporters of UPMC through both giving and volunteering. The $65 million dollar gift will help to complete the new 635-bed patient tower at UMPC Presbyterian, which will now be called the Kamin Tower. The new facility will have private rooms, staff spaces, and easier access for patient imaging as well as shared spaces for families. The tower is projected to open in early 2027.
