Pair Arrested After Garrett County Traffic Stop
The Garrett County Sheriff's Department Narcotics Division arrested a pair of local residents early Saturday on a number of charges after a traffic stop. 40 year old Brenda Shiflett, of Terra Alta, and 36 year old Derek Steffan, of Oakland, were found to be in possession of fentanyl and paraphernalia, and both were wanted for failing to appear for trial. Shiflett missed her court date in Allegany County, Steffan in Garrett County.
Maryland DNR sets Black Bear Lottery

Successful applicants will receive a permit valid for the five-day hunting season which will take place Oct. 25-29 in Allegany, Frederick, Garrett, and Washington counties. The department will issue 950 hunting permits this year. Natural Resources Police List Local Arrests
The Maryland Natural Resources Police recently charged several individuals throughout the state for illegal activities including weapons charges at a state park, operating watercraft while intoxicated, illegal fishing, and more. A Boonsboro man faces multiple charges, including operating a boat while impaired, after fleeing an NRP boat patrol on June 18. Officers patrolling the Potomac River in Frederick County spotted a vessel traveling without its required navigational lights. Maryland House Speaker Supports Marijuana Referendum
Maryland’s House speaker announced her support Friday for a referendum to legalize marijuana on next year’s ballot. After a year’s hiatus as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the Allegany County Fair has returned and will run through July 24 with free admission to celebrate the 35th anniversary. The Allegany County Health Department will hold two walk-in COVID-19 vaccination clinics on the ground floor of the Willowbrook Office Complex (12501 Willowbrook Road, Cumberland, MD) on Wednesday, July 21. On Thursday, July 8 Frostburg City Police served a criminal summons for Tracey Dianne Mock, 55, of Leesburg, Virginia, for providing false information after her dog bit an 8-year-old girl. On Thursday, May 13, 2021, at 1:51 p.m., a Frostburg City Police Officer was on foot patrol on Main Street when the officer encountered individuals who had just been involved in a dog bite incident.
