Mike Tomlin wants to be part of the post-Ben Roethlisberger era in Pittsburgh. The Steelers on Tuesday signed their longtime coach to a three-year contract extension that runs through the 2024 season. Tomlin is 145-78-1 in 14 years with the Steelers, winning one Super Bowl and going to another. Latest COVID-19 numbers from Frostburg State University. Through the university’s twice-weekly testing protocol, 24 positive tests were identified during last week’s seven-day testing period. The week’s positivity rate is 0.99 percent. AHEC West Among 27 New Apprenticeship Programs approved During COVID-19 Pandemic

Local Optometrist Passes Away

WCBC News has confirmed the passing of local optometrist Dr. Chip Harvey at the age of 58. He is the son of retired orthopedic surgeon Dr. Jack Harvey and the late Rebecca Harvey. Upchurch Family Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements, which will be announced later today.

Police Serve CDS Summons

On Monday, April 19th, 2021, The Cumberland City Police served a Criminal Summons on Donald Robert West, age 27, of Cumberland MD. The summons was in reference to an incident which occurred on April 15th, 2020 at a residence in the 200 block of Pennsylvania Ave. During this incident, the Cumberland City Police executed a Search and Seizure Warrant at the home of West. During the search, a quantity of suspected cocaine as well as CDS paraphernalia was located inside the residence. West was served the Summons and released, pending trial in District Court. UK COVID Variant Confirmed in Mineral County

The Mineral County Health Department on Monday confirmed a case of the United Kingdom coronavirus variant. Department officials said the case had been identified through routine surveillance. The variant is more contagious, but studies suggest existing vaccines are effective in protecting against it. The Hampshire County Health Department announced last week that a case of the variant strain had been identified there. That patient’s case was also confirmed through routine screening, according to the department.

Hogan to Move Thousands of State Jobs to Baltimore as Part of Revitalization Effort

Gov. Larry Hogan announced Monday 3,300 state employees from 12 state agencies will be relocated to offices in downtown Baltimore to help support economic development. During a press conference, Hogan said the move will help support the economy in the Central Baltimore business district. The Maryland Department of Human Services’ 700 employees and the Maryland Department of Health’s 1200 employees will be the first to move to Baltimore.
