Maryland Enters Phase 2A of Vaccine Distribution Plan
The State of Maryland has entered Phase 2A of its vaccination plan, with all Marylanders 60 and older now eligible to receive COVID-19 vaccines. All eligible Phase 1 and Phase 2A populations can now pre-register for an appointment at a mass vaccination site by visiting covidvax.maryland.gov or calling 1-855-MD-GOVAX (1-855-634-6829).
Nicholas Amick of Allegany High School Crowned 2021-2022 ACPS Teacher of the Year
On Monday, the Board of Education of Allegany County hosted the 33rd Annual Teacher of the Year Celebration. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s award celebration was held virtually. Seven ACPS educators were honored for their dedication and commitment to student success. Nicholas Amick of Allegany High School was selected as the 2021-2022 Allegany County Teacher of the Year. Mr. Jeff Blank, Superintendent of Schools, and Mrs. Crystal Bender, President of the Board of Education, offered pre-recorded remarks. Two Arrested after Harassing Woman
On Monday, March 22nd, 2021 a Cumberland Police officer on patrol in the Park Street area observed two adult males harassing and using profanity directed towards a mother and her two children that were walking in the area. The officer contacted the males who were identified as Melvin Eugene Mumma and Tyler Cloud Dixon. Both were issued criminal citations for disorderly conduct and released pending trial at District Court. Melvin Eugene Mumma Sr. age; 73, Cumberland, Maryland. Tyler Cloud Dixon, age; 36, Ridgeley, West Virginia.
Two Arrested on CDS Charges after Passing Out in U-Haul
On Monday, March 22nd, 2021 the Cumberland Police Department responded the area of Queen City Drive to check on wellbeing of a female driver of a U-Haul who was reported to be unconscious. When officers arrived, they observed the female in question who did appear to be passed out or unconscious. Contact was made with the female who was identified as Daysai Lychai Flores and a male passenger identified as Jordon Larine Redfern. Hogan Comments on Relaxed CDC Guidelines Translating to Students in Class
Those pushing for the reopening of schools got some support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Friday as it issued new guidance saying students can now be 3 feet apart and not 6. WBAL reports that despite the new guidance, it's still up to local school districts to make the final call. The CDC recommendation is an update to what school systems have been following since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. City Council Wants Crackdown on Tax Sale Property Buyers
The city of Cumberland is looking to crack down on individuals who purchase properties at tax sales- with no plans to improve or upgrade the locations. However it’s a matter that would have to be tackled at the state level through legislation. Justice Announces Vaccinations Open to Adults Over 16
During his Monday morning press conference, West Virginia Governor Jim Justice announced that COVID-19 vaccinations will now be open to all adults over the age of 16…. Justice said that those over the age of 65 will still be prioritized, but added that the vaccines must be available to all those who want it at this point in time. Along with opening the doors for access to the vaccines, Justice announced that all fairs, festivals and “similar events” will be allowed to resume on May 1.

Steam engine 1309 is 100% operational with a required inspection from the Federal Railroad Administration now the lone remaining hurdle. West Virginia opens vaccine eligibility to all 16 and over
West Virginia will immediately open coronavirus vaccine eligibility to all residents aged 16 and older, Gov. Jim Justice announced Monday. The state becomes one of the few in the nation to lift virtually all eligibility requirements way ahead of President Joe Biden's goal of allowing all adults to get shots starting on May 1. Justice said the state will continue prioritizing doses for residents 65 and over. “Now is our time.
