The  Allegany County Board of Commissioners, during the county’s regular business meeting, voiced strong support for the continuation of the local opportunity scholarship program. Established in 2013 through an agreement with the Rocky Gap Casino Resort, the Allegany County Opportunity Scholarship Program is funded by 3.75% of the total revenue accrued annually from electronic gaming at the casino. Ridgeley Man Arrested For Disorderly Conduct & Drug Offense

On February 27th, 2021, Cumberland City Police Officers on routine patrol were stopped by concerned citizens who advised them of a possibly naked male running in the street nearby. Officers were able to locate the male running in the area of Front St and detain him. The male was identified as Robert Lloyd Peck III, 40, of Ridgeley WV, who advised officers he was just running to try and keep warm. During the incident, Peck was also found to be in possession of a quantity of suspected methamphetamine. Peck was placed under arrest and taken before the District Court Commissioner for…

City Man Charged in Oldtown Road Assault

On February 27th, 2021, Cumberland City Police served a criminal summons was on Austin Garrett Sisk, 30, of Cumberland. The summons was in reference to an incident that occurred on February 23rd, 2020 at a residence in the 1100 block of Oldtown Rd. During the incident, the victim alleged that Sisk had assaulted them after an argument had ensued inside the residence. Sisk fled the scene on foot after the incident. Car Hits Pole in LaVale, Alcohol Suspected as Contributing Factor

Early Sunday, just after 3:30 AM, troopers from the Maryland State Police Cumberland Barrack and emergency medical services (EMS) responded to the 500 block of National Hwy, LaVale, Allegany County, Maryland, for a reported single vehicle personal injury collision. Responding Troopers and EMS located a Subaru passenger vehicle crashed into a utility pole. The vehicle was driven by a single occupant, Aaron Morgan (24 YOA of LaVale, MD). Morgan was transported to UPMC Western Maryland for non-life threatening injuries. Truck Rolls on Eastbound 68. Traffic Slowed For Hours

It happened again late Saturday morning on Interstate 68. The location is well known, the eastbound turn just prior to the Greene Street/220 South exit. A tractor trailer flipped onto its side, stopping traffic completely. When traffic started moving again, the single lane situation made merging necessary for several hours as the wreck was cleared. The Joint Communications Center of Allegany County said normal traffic resumed at around 6:30 PM.

FSU Announces Spectator Protocols

The Frostburg State athletic department has announced its plan for allowing spectators for outdoor sporting events for the 2021 spring semester, in accordance with local health and safety guidelines. These guidelines apply only to outdoor sporting events at Frostburg State. Per the MEC, spectators will not be permitted to attend indoor sporting events (men's and women's swimming, volleyball, acrobatics and tumbling) for the remainder of the spring semester.  The protocols, which go into effect February 27, are as follows. Justice Says WV Expects 15,000 Weekly Doses of Johnson & Johnson Vaccine

During Friday’s briefing, Governor Jim Justice announced that West Virginia officials expect to receive an initial weekly allotment of approximately 15,000 doses of the new Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, pending U.S. FDA authorization of the vaccine for emergency use. West Virginia could receive its first shipment of the new vaccine as soon as next week.
