COVID Measures will be part of DelFest 2021
DelFest 2021 is scheduled for September 23rd through the 26th at the Allegany County Fairgrounds- however with COVID-19 numbers on the rise- details are still being finalized. The festival, which had to be cancelled last year as a result of the pandemic, is one of the more popular events in the region attracting thousands from every part of the United States and other countries. Task Force looking at Eviction Process
Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh this week announced the membership of the Access to Counsel in Evictions Task Force, which will take effect starting October 1st. The task Force, created by an act of the General Assembly, will focus on helping to ensure that tenants facing eviction from their homes will have access to proper legal representation. Frosh told WBAL that that landlords have a tremendous advantage over tenants in most cases that end up in court- primarily because many of those people facing eviction simply can’t afford a lawyer.. Thousands in Western Maryland Eligible For Free Insurance
Recent data reveals that there are approximately 350,000 uninsured Maryland residents. The state estimates that about 120.000 of them are eligible for free health care coverage. In the state’s sixth district- which includes Allegany County- there are more than 21,000 people eligible for free insurance. Governor Hogan says Maryland Handling COVID Surge
Earlier this week, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan called on the FDA to give full approval for COVID-19 vaccinnes. Hogan said the state conducted a survey, and that the number one response people gave for not getting a vaccine is because it isn’t FDA approved. Despite no FDA approval, Hogan said about 80% of state employees are vaccinated. As of Thursday, Hogan said Maryland has issued more than 7.3 million vaccines, stating that while Maryland is experiencing the delta surge, it is not nearly as severe as many other states… Hogan1

America’s 911 Ride
Cumberland Police said Thursday the route motorcyclists taking part in America's 911 Ride will travel as they pass through the city has changed. They will enter the city via the Narrows and continue on N. Mechanic Street before turning on Frederick Street. They will then take Naves Cross Road to Interstate 68 and stop briefly at Rocky Gap before continuing on to Arlington, Virginia. City drivers may experience delays between 8 and 9:30 a.m.
District Court bench warrant served on Cumberland man
On Thursday, August 19th, 2021 the Cumberland Police Department served a District Court bench warrant on Melvin Eugene Mumma Jr. for violating pre-trial release conditions on attempted theft and forged currency charges. 9 PM Update: Due to the numerous poles and lines down, Mt. View Drive from Schly Street to Mcgruder Street will remain closed until further notice. 1,700 customers in Cumberland are without power according to the Potomac Edison. Allegany County Emergency Services reports a tree is down around North Lee Street and Valley Street. Electrical polls and lines are down. Crews have responded to the scene. Numerous street closures as a result of a tree down on the Great Alleghany Passage.
