Suspects Arrested in Fort Hill High Breaking & Entering

Summons Served   On 7/19/2021 the Cumberland City Police Department were dispatched to Fort Hill High School in reference to a breaking and entering which occurred on 7/17/2021. Upon arrival officers observed that someone had spray painted the walls, thrown trash around the school, and stole property belonging to the school. Security footage was reviewed and officers observed four individuals that were responsible for the acts. A social media post was distributed asking for the public’s assistance. Cumberland Man Held Without Bond After Knife Allegation

Cumberland City Police Saturday served an arrest warrant on Timothy Hart Winkler. The warrant was issued when a private citizen filed charges against Winkler at District Court. The victim alleged that Winkler displayed a knife and threatened them with it. Winkler was taken before a District Court Commissioner and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center without bond. Underground Fire Causes Cumberland Outage

Over two hundred customers of Potomac Edison lost power just after midnight Sunday due to an underground transformer fire. The outage affected part of the downtown area, and some residences on the West Side of doiwn. Of concern were residents who needed electrical service for medical purposes and air condiioning on a humid night.  

Local WV Counties Remain at Lowest COVID Level

The five West Virginia Counties in the WCBC listening area continue to show at the lowest level of Coronavirus infection, according to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Services. Mineral, Hampshire, Grant, Hardy and Morgan Counties are shown as green in the latest map. The closest yellow county is in Berkelely County. Recently, Garrett County Public Schools announced that it would not have a virtual learning option when school starts, and the same is true for Carroll County. Trooper 5 Involved in Swallow Falls Rescue

Maryland State Police rescued a swimmer who was injured Friday in Garrett County. Shortly after 5 p.m. on Friday, Maryland State Police Helicopter Trooper 5, based at Cumberland Airport, was dispatched to perform an aerial hoist rescue of a victim who sustained a head injury after slipping on a rock. Due to the steep terrain, extended extraction time, and the nature of the victim’s injuries, a Maryland State Police Aviation Command helicopter was requested by SYSCOM through Garret County Fire and Rescue to perform an aerial hoist rescue. City of Cumberland issues statement regarding condition of the Virginia Avenue Underpass

The Mayor and City Council of Cumberland has been notified by several citizens of their concerns with the CSX Transportation, Inc. (CSX) bridge that spans over Virginia Avenue. At the direction of the Mayor and City Council, City staff has been in contact with CSX representatives about the condition of the bridge. CSX has advised that the bridge structure and foundations are inspected annually for structural integrity and that those inspections have returned satisfactory reports at this time. Cumberland Gas Prices Decline

The statewide Maryland gas average, as well as the gas averages in Baltimore, Hagerstown and Salisbury, are unchanged from last week. Meanwhile, prices in Annapolis, Cumberland, and the Washington suburbs have seen minor decreases of a penny. Prices in Frederick are down four cents from last week.   In its latest weekly report, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported that gas demand grew slightly last week. Additionally, total domestic gas stocks saw a slight decline. The 2021 Allegany County Fair and Ag Expo has seen large crowds all week- but all good things come to an end and the fair will come to a close tonight. Rides begin at 4pm and stock car races at 7pm.

Allegany County COVID-19 Update

The Allegany County Health Department will offer walk-in COVID-19 vaccinations on the ground floor of the Willowbrook Office Complex (12501 Willowbrook Road, Cumberland, MD) on Wednesday, July 28.
