Cumberland’s Veteran’s Memorial Park Celebrates 50th Anniversary
November 11, 1970, the City of Cumberland dedicated a property located on the east side of South Centre Street as the Veterans' Memorial Park. The city erected a monument "to all who served in the U.S. Armed Forces in all wars." The Let's Beautify Cumberland Committee recognizing the 50th anniversary is collecting military memorabilia to be buried in a time capsule at the park. Baltimore to pay $2.5M to settle police corruption claims
Baltimore officials are set to approve nearly $2.5 million in payments to resolve claims that officers in a rogue police unit brutalized, robbed and falsely arrested residents. The Baltimore Sun reports that the city’s Board of Estimates is scheduled Wednesday to approve payments to 11 people in a second round of settlements related to the police department’s corruption-plagued Gun Trace Task Force. Local Woman Sentenced in Major Theft Case
Mindy Renae Moorehead, 40, of Ridgeley, has been sentenced to five years in prison in connection with the theft of over $1.5 million from Bill's Marine Service on Deep Creek Lake. Garrett County Circuit Judge Ray Strubin initially sentenced Moorehead to a term of 15 years for the charge of Theft over $100,000, but suspended ten years of that sentence in favor of five years of probation. ACPS Scrambles For Nutrition Services at Braddock
The Allegany County Public Schools Food and Nutrition Services Department is currently working to develop a contingency plan to make food distribution available to students attending Braddock Middle School.
