Outdoor Concerts to Resume in WV

  West Virginia Governor Jim Justice is allowing live outdoor music performances and certain indoor events to resume during the coronavirus pandemic. Justice has signed an executive order that allows the resumption provided that safety guidelines are followed. Live performances will be limited to outdoors only and must follow capacity limits and require face coverings and social distancing whenever possible. Attendance will be restricted to 25% of a venue’s capacity or 250 people, whichever is less.Indoor live music performances with people in attendance remain prohibited. Such performances without people present that are broadcast to a remote audience will be allowed.

Thiam Becomes First Female Black GOP State Legislator in MD History

Maryland’s first female black Republican state lawmaker was sworn in on Tuesday.  Brenda Thiam was appointed by Governor Hogan to represent District 2B in Washington County, replacing Paul Corderman, who was appointed to the state Senate seat vacated by Andrew Serafini, who retired earlier this year. Thiam is a behavioral health specialist and assists families of children with autism. 

Federal grant will fund transit hub in Cumberland

U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen and Congressmen Steny H. Hoyer, Dutch Ruppersberger, John Sarbanes, Kweisi Mfume, Anthony G. Brown, Jamie Raskin and David Trone today announced $346,500 in federal funding to upgrade transportation services and increase transit access in rural and low-income communities across Maryland.   “Robust, reliable, and affordable public transit lifts up communities and increases economic opportunity. Child struck by vehicle in Bel Air transported to Ruby Memorial

On Tuesday afternoon at  at approximately 1:54 PM deputies of the Allegany County Sheriff's Office responded to an incident occurring in the Bel Air area in which a juvenile subject was injured by a vehicle. The child was treated on scene and transported by Maryland State Police Aviation Command to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown,West Virginia to be further treated for possible life-threatening injuries. The Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Cresaptown Fire Department and Allegany County Department of Emergency Services.   The incident is still under investigation by a reconstructionist of the Allegany County Sheriff's Office. 

Maryland AG reacts to court ruling banning seismic testing

Today, the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina issued an order marking the end of the Trump Administration’s plan to allow seismic testing in the Atlantic Ocean for purposes of oil and gas exploration.  In 2018, the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) granted incidental harassment authorizations, or IHAs, to five companies seeking to use airguns to conduct seismic testing for these purposes.  Shortly thereafter, Attorney General Frosh led a multistate coalition in challenging the IHAs in court.  Today’s court order makes clear that the companies will not engage in seismic testing prior to the IHAs’ November 30 expiration date, and…

Each year during the first full week of October, the Allegany County Local Behavioral Health Authority (LBHA) joins other organizations across the nation to recognize Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW).      One in five U.S. adults experiences a mental illness.  The focus of MIAW is to help raise awareness of mental illness, educate the public, and fight stigma. Power outage in Corriganville

A spokesperson for Potomac Edison reports that 370 customers in the Corriganville area were without power Tuesday morning for approximately two hours as a result of a line failure. Power was restored just after 11 am

Keyser man sentenced on federal drug charges

A Keyser man was sentenced Monday to 92 months in prison for his involvement in a drug distribution conspiracy, according to U.S. Attorney Bill Powell. Levi Doman, 30, pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine in January 2020.  He admitted to distributing methamphetamine in August 2017 in Mineral County.

City Council candidate charged with assault

A candidate for a seat on the Cumberland City Council was arrested Monday night on assault charges. Robin Hood Constitution, 61, also known as Mark Shyrock, was taken into custody by Allegany County Sheriff’s deputies shortly after units were dispatched to a Sentinal Lane address for a reported domestic situation.  A female victim told officers  she had been strangled and assaulted by Shyrock.   He was located minutes later and taken into custody on charges of 1st and 2nd degree assault.
