Cumberland Man Arrested on CDS Charges

On Monday, October 5th, 2020 the Cumberland Police Department served a criminal summons on Nickoli Dundar Cakus charging him with CDS possession not marijuana.  The summons was issued by District Court in reference to an incident back on September 7th, 2020 when police found Cakus in possession of suboxone the he could not provide a prescription for.  He signed and received copies of the charging documents.   Nickoli Dundar Cakus, age; 22, Cumberland, Maryland.    

Allegany County Confirms 500th COVID Infection

 Allegany County health officials reported four new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the county’s cumulative total to 500.  The latest cases, according to the Allegany County Health Department, involve a female in her teens, a woman in her 20s, a man in his 60s and a woman in her 70s.  

Trio of Candidates File to Replace Finan on Circuit Court

Three candidates have filed to replace Judge Tim Finan on the bench at Allegany County Circuit Court. Jessica Colwell, Ram Pillai and States Attorney Mike Twigg applied by the September 23rd deadline.  Due to COVID-19, interviews with the nominating commission will be conducted virtually, rather than in person. Governor Larry Hogan will make the selection, although no timetable has been listed on the Maryland Judicial Nominations website.

Toomey Likely to Resume Private Sector Career

Pennsylvania Senator Pat Toomey announced yesterday that he would not be a candidate for re-election nor a candidate for governor of his state. Toomey, who has a background in finance and is considered a champion of free trade, is expected to return to that sector.

WV Teachers Union Files Injunction to Stop Use of Color-Coded Map

The West Virginia Education Association on Monday filed an injunction challenging the state’s color-coded map of Coronavirus spread that determines school status. The 2020-2021 Maryland Teachers of the Year event will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2020, at 8 p.m. where the 2021 Maryland Teacher of the Year will be announced on the air in a 30-minute special on Maryland Public Television. Maryland Parks See Surge in Usage

ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Larry Hogan today announced that the Maryland Park Service is reporting a total of 17.1 million visitors to date in 2020, already surpassing the previous record of 14.9 million total visitors in 2019, with three months still remaining in the year.
