Paving Coming to Virginia Avenue

Virginia Avenue in Cumberland from the railroad underpass to River Avenue will be undergoing paving work through mid-November.  Paving and overlay will be  done to Virginia Avenue s well as parts of Roberts Street, Bowen Street, and Lafayette Avenue. Milling will also be done on King Street.  Detours will be set up in the area as needed. Work will be done between 6:30am and 5pm.

Lonacona Loop Hike Saturday on Dan’s Mountain

On Saturday, October 26, hikers can join Ranger Mac at Dan's Mountain State Park for a guided hike along the moderately-challenging Lonacona Loop trail. Beginning at 10am, hikers will move along the 4.5 mile trail as they travel through a mixed hardwood forest on Allegany County's highest mountain. Lunch will be provided by 10 Cows Creamery. Hikers should bring water and wear hiking boots. Dogs on a leash are welcome.

Attorney General Brown Obtains Guilty Plea Related to Illegal Dumping of Over 250,000 Scrap Tires in Allegany County

On October 16, 2024, Osei pleaded guilty before the Honorable Judge Jeffery S. Getty of the Circuit Court for Allegany County to 17 environmental crimes. Osei pled guilty to one count of unlawful disposal for gain, eight counts of operating a scrap tire facility without a license, and eight counts of improper handling of waste—nuisance. Judge Getty scheduled sentencing for December 17, 2024. The investigation was led by the Attorney General’s Environmental and Natural Resources Crimes Unit (ENRCU), the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE), and the Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal. Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Arrest

On Thursday, October 24th, 2024, an officer with the Cumberland Police Department observed a vehicle in the area of Park St. commit multiple violations, including crossing the yellow line and seatbelt violations. The vehicle was stopped in the area of Maryland Ave and the occupants were contacted. During the course of the stop, a police K9 was utilized to conduct a free air sniff of the vehicle which alerted to the presence of narcotics. Bench Warrant Arrest

On Thursday, October 24th, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department arrested Robert Lee Harris, 38, of Cumberland MD. Harris was arrested on two active Bench Warrants, both issued by the Allegany County District Court. Both warrants allege that Harris violated the terms and conditions of probation that had been placed upon him due to convictions on charges of second-degree assault and CDS possession. Harris was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an Initial Appearance where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. He is currently being held on a total of $10,000 bond.

Adult Arrest

On Thursday, October 24th, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department served a Criminal Summons on Dame’Ra Davis, 25, of Cumberland MD. The summons was in reference to an incident that occurred on September 26th, at a Queen City Drive business. During that incident, it is alleged that Davis had been trespassing on the property after being previously served with a “no trespassing” order for the property. On this date, Davis was served the summons and released, pending trial in District Court.

Health Not Harm Urges No Vote For Referendum

Debra Brocato of Health Not Harm, a Maryland ballot issue committee, recently spoke to WCBC about the coming referendum on Reproductive Freedom.  The group is concentrated on parental rights being taken away through the proposed amendment that would also   enshrine abortion in the state’s constitution.  Brocato says sponsors are using abortion as a “Trojan horse” to strip parental rights, allowing children to make life altering medical decisions… “Vote no so a 10-year old can’t go and get puberty blockers without parental consent or knowledge, or a 12-year old girl can’t go get a birth control device implanted in her arm…

Parrott Wants Strict Border Controls
