Hit and Run Investigation
Around 8:52 PM on Friday, January 3, 2025, Officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 100 Block of Bedford Street for the report of a motor vehicle crash. Officers were advised that a dark in color two-door Jeep Wrangler had struck a parked car and continued traveling onto Centre Street. National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Washington and Central and Eastern Allegany Counties. In West Virginia, Berkeley, Jefferson, and Morgan Counties. Heavy snow expected with total snow accumulations between 6 and 9 inches and amounts of 10 to 12 inches possible in isolated spots if heavy banding sets up in this area. Gov. Moore Declares State of Preparedness Ahead of Winter Storm
Governor Wes Moore declared a State of Preparedness in advance of the elevated winter storm threat to Maryland from Sunday, January 5 through Monday, January 6. The storm will likely affect roads and transportation centers and could cause significant snow accumulation in some parts of the state. Major Winter Storm to Arrive Sunday Night
A winter storm watch is in effect from Sunday evening into late Monday night. Heavy snow is possible, with potential for some sleet and freezing rain. Total snow and sleet accumulations of 5 inches or greater and ice accumulations up to one tenth of an inch are possible. A localized band with up to 10 inches of snow is possible.
CEDC Request for Proposal for Memorial Hospital Site
The Cumberland Economic Development Corporation has released its Request for Proposal for the future development of the former Memorial Hospital site. The 9 acre site includes the parking garage on Memorial Avenue. Proposals are due to CEDC by the close of business on February 14.
City Police Report for Saturday
***Adult Arrest*** On Friday, January 3, 2025, Officers of the Cumberland Police Department served a bench warrant on Eric Clark Jr. The warrant was issued as a result of Clark failing to comply with the conditions of pretrial release originally set by the Allegany District Court. The originating charges were Child Abuse Second Degree and Assault Second Degree. Clark was located and arrested. He was taken before a District Court Commissioner where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center and held without bond pending trial. U-Haul Says Maryland Not Popular for Relocation
According to data collected by U-Haul, not many people who are relocating are choosing to settle in the Old Line State. Maryland came in 42nd out of 50 states in what the company calls its “Growth Index” data analyzing one-way customer transactions in 2024. The moving and trucking company released the latest migration trends data based on its customers’ one-way moves throughout the United States in 2024.
