Maryland’s House Republican Caucus has sent a letter to Governor Wes Moore asking for a veto of the Renewable Energy Certainty Act. Republicans point out that the legislation eliminates local control over solar project siting and threatens agriculture – Maryland’s largest commercial industry. Drug Take-Back Day Today

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.  The Maryland State Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration ask residents to always dispose of unneeded prescription medications properly.  The Take-Back day happens twice a year enabling people to dispose of unwanted prescription drugs while learning about medication use.  A drug collection box can be located at the Maryland State Police Barracks on National Highway in LaVale.

Layoffs At Mack Truck

Job losses are hitting the truck manufacturing industry. Heavy duty truck orders have been negatively affected by market uncertainty regarding tariffs, resulting in dozens of employees being laid off at Mack Truck in Hagerstown. Fetterman Favors Striking Iran

U.S. Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania said President Donald Trump should forget about engaging in talks with Iran and pursue military strikes against the country’s nuclear facilities instead.  In an interview Wednesday with the Washington Free Beacon, Fetterman made it clear he preferred the U.S. pursue force over diplomacy when it came to Iran.  Fetterman has become a staunch supporter of Israel in the Middle East.

Marshall Student Deportation Halted

A federal judge has granted a temporary restraining order halting the deportation of a Marshall University graduate student from India who is within just weeks of graduation.  The student recently received an email saying his F-1 Visa was being revoked because his name was found on a criminal record. He was arrested in Indiana in 2020 on a misdemeanor driving under the influence charge.  The graduate student sued in federal court with the support of the American Civil Liberties Union-West Virginia, arguing that the actions violated administrative procedures and his Fifth Amendment rights.  U.S. District Judge Robert C. Confederate History Month Celebration

Saturday at 2pm, Civil War history buffs can gather at the Pollock Cemetery off of River Road in Mexico Farms for a special ceremony to honor National Confederate History Month. Hesson Arrested

On April 21, 2025, deputies responded to Walmart for a reported theft. Upon arrival, deputies located Jennie Rebecca Hesson, 47 years old, Oakland, leaving the store with a shopping cart of stolen merchandise. Based on the investigation, deputies arrested Hesson and charged her with Felony Theft. Hesson was transported to the Garrett County Detention Center, where she was released on her own recognizance after appearing before a District Court Commissioner.
