Maryland State Police Investigating Homicide in Somerset County
Maryland State Police are investigating the death of a man on Friday evening in Somerset County. The victim is identified as Evan Neal, 20, of Crisfield, Maryland. He was pronounced deceased on the scene by emergency medical personnel. At approximately 4:43 p.m., officers from the Crisfield Police Department responded to the area outside of an apartment in the 200-block of the Somers Cove neighborhood in Crisfield for a report of a person shot. Responding officers found the victim with an apparent gunshot wound. The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit was requested to respond and take the lead on the investigation. …

Garrett Christian Academy Begins New Chapter as Independent School
Garrett Christian Academy, now home to over 140 students from more than 60 families and representing 34 area churches, has officially become an independent school. Formerly operating as a satellite campus of Calvary Christian Academy, the school’s Board of Directors made the decision to establish Garrett Christian Academy as a "stand alone" institution. As of April 22, 2025, the school is officially recognized by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).
Governor Morrisey Signs Gun Rights Bills
On Friday West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey signed three bills to protect the Second Amendment rights of West Virginians. Governor Morrisey was joined by state legislators and local supporters at Cacapon Resort State Park in Berekeley Springs, where he signed House Bills 2067 and 3342, and Senate Bill 270. House Bill 2067 ensures firearm companies are not unfairly held liable for the actions of those who use their products. Bench Warrant – Fail to Appear
On Thursday, April 24th, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department arrested Dylan Lee Robinette, 29, of Rawlings, MD. Robinette was arrested on an active Bench Warrant issued by the Allegany County District Court on March 3rd, 2025. The warrant alleges Robinette failed to appear in District Court on that date for previous traffic charges, including driving without a license. He was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an Initial Appearance, where he was released on his own recognizance. Democrats To Spend Millions Before Next Elections
The Democratic National Committee is powering up states with an influx of cash. The DNC announced this week that they will be sending out one million dollars a month to state parties over the next four years in order to build membership and organizing efforts. Each state will receive $17,500 each month with GOP-controlled states receiving an additional $5,000. Party Chair Ken Martin said Democrats would witness a level of aggressive investment and organizing unlike anything done before.
Circuit Court Bench Warrant Served
Dawn Marie Fishel, 40 of Frostburg, was served a Circuit Court Bench Warrant for Violation of Probation for the 2023 plea deal for Conspiracy-CDS: Possession with intent to Distribute: Narcotics where she received 3-years supervised probation. Fishel is being held without bond at the Allegany County Detention Center pending a bail review in Circuit Court.
Lt. Governor Miller Wants Drivers To Pay Attention
More than 48,000 citations have been issued in the first two months of the new tiered fine structure in the state for work zone speed violations in Maryland. As part of a ceremony for National Work Zone Safety Week, Lt. Downtown Dining Getting A Colorful Lift
Just before Baltimore Street reopened, the Cumberland Economic Development Corporation held a special “Drive Thru History” event for people who entered a raffle to be the first to dive along the new street. Experimental Aircraft Association Breakfast
The Experimental Aircraft Association is having its first breakfast of the year this Sunday at the Cumberland Airport’s Chapter House, beginning at 8am.
