Monroeville Mall up for Sale

After the demolition of the Century III Mall near Pittsburgh, another historic shopping destination is up for sale.  Monroeville Mall, a two story complex which was completed in 1969, has been the destination for many shoppers and charter bus trips over the decades.  It was also the scene of the filming of the 1978 horror film, Dawn of the Dead.  The mall is currently owned by a Tennessee company and the entire 187 acre space is for sale. 

Westmar Middle In Brief HOLD Status Tuesday

From Allegany County Public Schools:   Today, December 17, 2024, Westmar Middle School was placed in a brief HOLD status, as a precautionary measure in response to a report of a disturbance in the area. Administration gave the “All Clear” and the instructional day resumed as normal.

Animal Shelter Christmas Event This Weekend

Allegany County’s Animal Shelter on Furnace Street in Cumberland will be having their annual Presents for Paws Christmas event on Saturday, December 21 beginning at 11am.  The event invites the public to bring Christmas to the animals with donations of supplies, toys, blankets and pet food. ARREST WARRANT SERVED

On Monday, December 16, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department served an arrest warrant on Nathan Shell.  The warrant was issued as the result of a private citizen filing charges against Shell at the District Court of Allegany County.  Shell was arrested and transported to Central Booking.  He was later seen by a District Court Commissioner and posted a $7,500 unsecured personal bond. Seniors Fight Social Isolation During Holidays

4 Arrested for Trespassing at Baltimore Avenue residence

On Monday, December 16, 2024 at approximately 2:16 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 200 block of Baltimore Avenue for a trespassing complaint.  The caller reported that several subjects had entered the property which is posted, “No Trespassing.” Officers arrived and located an open door.  Police checked inside the residence and located the following suspects: David Bennett, Kerri Bohrer, Brenda Ogden, and Jeremy Thomas. Pattison Leads Frankfort Championship Team

Last Week For Red Kettle Donations

Steam Engine 1309 Continuing Repairs

City Council Meets Tonight

A full agenda awaits both the closed and open meetings of the Cumberland Mayor and City Council this evening.  The closed session includes discussion on development of the former Memorial Hospital site as well as interest in the recently cleared site along Messick Road.  The council will also go over a new employment agreement with City Fire Chief Shannon Adams.  The public meeting will see another Choose Cumberland Relocation Package awarded as well as new parking rates for Baltimore Street finalized.  The public session begins at 6:15 at City Hall.
