Maryland Joins In Suit Against Uber

Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced Monday that his office is leading a coalition of 22 states in a lawsuit filed by the Federal Trade Commission against Uber Technologies and Uber USA, operators of the popular rideshare and delivery company. The lawsuit alleges that Uber used deceptive and unfair practices in offering and selling Uber One subscription services, alleging that Uber used negative option marketing tactics when it offered free trial subscriptions – a practice that automatically charges consumers if they do not cancel a free trial.

Changes With Assembly Expected

The Special Session scheduled today for the Maryland General Assembly is an early kickoff to the legislative session that begins in January. A new Speaker of the House will be selected today, most likely Josaline Pena-Melnyk, a delegate from Anne Arundel and PG counties. State Revenue Estimate Increases Just Slightly

The Maryland Board of Revenue Estimates voted to slightly adjust state revenue projections for Fiscal Year 2026 to $26.76 billion, a .34% increase from the previous estimate. The forecast increases revenues by almost $10 million during FY 27. Arrest Warrant Served

On Monday, December 15, 2025, Officers of the Cumberland Police Department served an arrest warrant on Tiffany Price. The warrant was issued as a result of a citizen complaint taken by the Allegany County District Court. As a result, Price was arrested and taken before a District Court Commissioner for her initial appearance. She was released on her own recognizance pending her trial. Capito to Seek Reelection

Republican U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia has officially announced her bid for reelection next November.  Capito, 72, was first elected in 2014 after serving seven terms in the House of Representatives. 

Ocean City Traffic Patterns Studied

Currently Ocean City, Maryland has dedicated bus lanes on each side of Coastal Highway.  A State Highway Administration proposal would convert the bus lanes into dedicated bicycle lanes, putting the buses into regular traffic along the busy highway which covers the entire city.  SHA is accepting more public input as the plan is considered.

Redistricting a Low Priority for Most Marylanders

A poll commissioned by UMBC shows that fewer than one third of Maryland residents deem Governor Wes Moore’s redistricting plan a “high priority.”  Politico reports that health care, crime, and quality education are much higher priorities for state residents. 

Criminal Summons Served

On Sunday, December 14th, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department served a Criminal Summons on Keith Louis Wilkins, 38, of Frostburg MD. The summons was in reference to an incident that was reported to the Cumberland Police on December 12th, 2025, at a business in the 700 block of Park St. During that incident, it is alleged that Wilkins entered the store and stole items while an employee was distracted and tending to other customers. Solar Advocates Rally for Legislation to Make Energy Affordable

Lawmakers and clean energy advocates hope to pass legislation in next year’s General Assembly that they say would make solar energy more affordable and accessible.
