While officially the 2025 Session of the West Virginia began on January 8th, we really didn’t start until February 12th. The year immediately following a gubernatorial election, the legislature gavels in, then immediately recesses for a month to give the new governor time to assemble his or her cabinet and prepare a budget. This is one of those years and the 60-day session will end in April instead of March. The West Virginia legislature continues to advance a bill that would loosen vaccine requirements for children. Senate Bill 460 would allow religious and moral exemptions for school mandated vaccination requirements.
On Friday, February 14, 2025 at approximately 10:37 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 400 block of Baltimore Avenue in an attempt to serve an arrest warrant. Officers arrived and located William Dibuono and Belen Waybright inside the residence. The residence was posted as ‘No Trespassing’ and officers determined that Dibuono and Waybright did not have permission to be at the property. Dibuono was also found to be in possession of suspected heroin and drug paraphernalia. Both subjects were arrested and transported to police headquarters. On Friday, February 14, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department served a criminal summons on Natasha Thomas. The summons was issued in connection with a theft investigation that began on February 4, 2025. On that date at approximately 11:59 AM, an officer of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business on Park Street for reports of past thefts. Police contacted the staff who reported that the same suspect stole merchandise from the store on January 19, 2025 and February 1, 2025. The suspect was identified as Natasha Thomas. Brother Eric Henderson, a cherished teacher of chemistry and religion at Bishop Walsh, died Thursday evening in Pittsburgh. Brother Eric spent a total of 22 years at BW, first coming to Cumberland from 1973-1983 and returning for a second stint from 1999-2011. The chemistry lab at Bishop Walsh is named for Brother Eric. He spent the last 14 years of his career at Central Catholic in Pittsburgh. Funeral arrangements have yet to be finalized.
On Thursday, February 13th, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department responded to a vacant building in the 10 block of Columbia St for a trespassing complaint. Upon arrival, officers were advised that two subjects were observed entering the building that was currently under renovation. Upon a search of the property, officers observed the subjects attempting to flee out a window. Officers were able to stop and place the subjects under arrest without incident. As a result, Eric Leighton Christopher Brewington, 24, and Heidi Storm Townsend, 19, both of Cumberland MD, were issued criminal citations and released, pending trial in District Court….
This weekend is Shop Maryland Energy Weekend in Maryland. Comptroller Brooke Lierman told WCBC that purchasing Energy Star products will result in money saved for Maryland shoppers. She noted that Marylanders in the market for a new air conditioner, heat pump, or washer and dryer will not pay Maryland’s 6% sales tax.Lierman said the program began in 2011.
