CSX Donates For Helene Recovery

CSX Corporation announced it will contribute $100,000 to support the American Red Cross in its ongoing relief and recovery efforts underway in communities impacted by Hurricane Helene. The donation to the American Red Cross will support work with community and government agencies to assess damage and support emergency needs. The American Red Cross is providing safe shelter, food and health services to families who lost their homes and belongings.  CSX will also match dollar for dollar donations that company employees make to the American Red Cross.

Trone Delivers 1 Million Dollar check for Carver Center

Congressman David Trone a Democrat visited Western Maryland over the weekend delivering big checks for projects throughout the region. Trone secured over 4 million dollars in federal community project funding during fiscal year 2024. Pear Street Assault Arrest

On 09/29/2024 at approximately 6:45 PM the Cumberland City Police was dispatched to the 200 block of Pear Street for an assault. Officers were advised that Alex Unger was intoxicated and had assaulted two juveniles at that location. Officers were able to view a witness’ cell phone video of the incident. On the video Unger is seen assaulting a teenaged juvenile. Officers observed minor injuries to the victims. The officer applied for charges and an Arrest Warrant was issued. Baltimore Street Disorderly Conduct Arrest

On 09/29/2024 at approximately 9:00 AM the Cumberland City Police were dispatched to a business in the 30 block of Baltimore Street for a disturbance. Upon arrival officers observed Kimberly Carnley yelling in a patron’s face that she was God. Carnley was asked to stop yelling and leave the area. Carnley refused and continued to yell inside the business. Carnley was placed under arrest and transported to the police station. State Board of Revenue Estimates

Maryland’s Comptroller Brooke Lierman says she remains “cautiously optimistic” about the state’s economic performance and the resilience of the economy.  The state Board of Revenue Estimates released its latest forecast late last week, showing a mostly flat performance with a modest uptick for fiscal 2026, but a large structural deficit of $1 billion still exists… “Notably, there’s been an $88.4 million increase in FY 25 revenue compared to the March estimate. WV Child Poverty Rate Still High

The number of West Virginia children living in poverty remains among the highest in the nation, and more children are living in households struggling with hunger, according to the latest federal data.  The end of pandemic supports combined with rising inflation and the cost of living are to blame, experts say.
